When i play my backups, my PS2 makes continuos clicks and whirring noises, Im unsure what is making it do this, and if there is anyway to stop it. Also, during playing Shadow Of The Colossus, it makes grinding noises, and when im riding round on Shadow, it takes ages for the cliffs to appear, like, ill be riding around and all of a sudden a cliff will appear out of no where. I use 16x Verbatim DVD-R's and the Slide Card trick with Cog Swap. Loading times are also longer, but i can live with them. Any help would be much appreciated

Thnx In Advance

-Xiofire

PS: I can only burn at 1x as my burner will not allow any faster. Its a Pioneer DVR 104.

OK, I am not 100% sure, but it sounds like your lens needs to be lowered.

if your lens does need to be lowered, you must fix it and open your ps2, or pay someone to do it. I am not 100% sure if thats the problem so stick around and get a second opinion.

Clean your lens with a q-tip lightly moistened with rubbing alcohol.

The slow loading and freezes (cliffs) are because you are burning 16X discs at 1X. If you can only burn at 1X, get some 4X discs. That should help that out. As far as the noises, you might want to do what everyone is saying and clean your laser with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. It is a very easy process to do. Here is a guide for that: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars

Yeah, Maxell is good media.

If your laser continues to act up after you try the Maxell media, you might want to contact Sony and have them fix it...since it is still under warranty.

Yeh Verbs are great and so are Taiyo Yudens. In future get the DVD-R's 8X and burn at 4X. I've had a few problems with the 16X too so stick to the 8X ;)

Also dont be afraid of opening the PS2, I thought I'd have to pay someone to fix my PS2 as the disk tray jammed so I was pissed off, so thought I'd open it up and see what the prob was. It's easy, just a bunch of screws :)

Was good learning how the disk tray and laser operated inside too :)

If you don't want lightscribe, you could try the Benq 1640. It is a very good burner.
