I purchased ram for a brand new motherboard it would not work and the pc would not go past the initial bios boot screen.
I already have a 1gb dimm in the board of the same spec.
I returned to retailer as faulty they tested & said it is fine nothing wrong with it.
They say it is likely to be a high/low density issue.
I seemingly have purchased high and I need low.
Does anyone know if this is right or if I am having my leg pulled?
how can you tell if you have a high or low density dimm?
My board is a asrock p4vm800
the mobo book states
2ddr dimm slots- ddr1 & ddr2
1 ddr dimm slot supports pc3200 (ddr400).Max 1gb,
2 ddr dimm slots supports pc2700 (ddr333)/pc2100 (ddr266), max 2gb
I cant get a refund as the dim according to retailer is fine but can get the correct dimm for an extra cost which is what makes me suspicious
I tried the dimm in 3 different boards of different varieties and it never worked in any.

Did you email him prior to the auction and check compatibility?

Is the RAM you got a "High Density" type of RAM? Although I thought your motherboard is compatible with that type of RAM, since you tried it in 3 other boards, you may have gotten a duff one.

I'd be inclined to email the board makers and ask what your board is compatible with (inform the seller you will be doing this), and depending on what they say, either get a replacement stick or the one the seller suggested.

Main PC specs: AMD-XP 1900+; SOYO KT400 Dragon Lite mobo; 1.5Gb PC2100 RAM; ATI Radeon 9500 Pro; 80Gb Seagate HDD; 60Gb Maxtor HDD; Lite-On COMBO SOHC-5236K; Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1673S
