I've read in a few mags and papers in the past week about the uk gov looking to stop sharing files over the net. Instead of going after the big guys who get the content, their going after PC Users at home now.
BT, Telewest, AOL and a few others have givin IP address and where you live to UK authorities.
Should I be worried?

Don't be, its just publicity to scare off so called 'little guys' such as ourselves. An average police raid costs well over £1000, to do this to over 300,000 people would be ludicrous.

@ paul1085: are you so sure.
Currently the us is trialing software that can decipher the packets of data that you download.Where i live the authorities dont know what i download but only the amount, in 2 years roughly they will have the technology to also decipher what i have downloaded and then i guess with everything else we all will be re evaluating whether or not to download off the net

I wouldn't worry too much. As the law stands at the minute in the UK, the only way they are going to get a worthwile conviction against you is if they can prove that you have been selling copyrighted material. If you've got a load of stuff for personal use then the worst you're probably looking at is confiscation and a small fine.

well, the price of a single bootleg cd in the U.S. is around $5000 the last time i heard. also u dont need a RAID just get some cds, a couple of officers with a warrant to search your home and conficate your computer costs around $15 an hour. they arent going to every home but it is likely they will go to quite a few to use as a scare tactic. u could be one of them, but in my opinion, if the police come to your house for a couple of bootleg cds, they have nothing better to do.which is why i love living in america. police take 4 hours to arrive after someone gets shot, i doubt theyll get off thier lazy @sses for some cds.

I wouldnt worry about it to much at the moment, every law that needs to be passed here in the UK needs to go through the House Of Lords, and i bet half of the kids of the lords download stuff off torrent limewire etc.
I best some of them even have bootleg DVDs CDs in there homes themselves. And we all know the Lords are tight arsed Basta*ds so they will delay it and delay it until the government give up. Well at least i hope

i think it is a server glitch because your 2 last posts in normal are identical but when doing a reply your 12:56 post is different than the 13:23!
