Hi hope someone can help me my pc was working fine untill now i shut it down as normal last nite then when i went to turn it on today it wont boot up. When i turn it on it sends a single to turn the monitor on the hard drive light flickers for about 2 seconds then thats it black screen and nothing else. I took out the ram to check it and when i power it up i get the beepin sounds which makes me think the ram is not the problem.

sorry man

ok i am runing xp home i dont know the exact spec of the pc it's a packard bell bought from pc world i do know it has 256rm 80g hdd.

the last time i was using it i was downloading patch's and fixes for psp games could i have got a virus.

ddp i was geting no beeps till i took the ram out then i put it back in and there is no beeps. The drives dont seem to boot at all i just get a black screen. When i turn it on the monitor go's from power down to on but it just stays a black screen. There is a red lite on the front of the pc that lits when the hdd is in use that usualy stays lit till the boot is finished it's just flickering on for about 2 secords.

So you are saying you don't think it is actually going through the boot sequence at all...
Well you could always reset your BIOS... There's jumpers on your motherboard that allow you to do so. I'll look around and see if I can find something, but without the model# of the packard bell I don't know if I can find the exact mobo that's in it. I'm sure packard bell made many different PC's with 256MB of RAM and an 80GB HDD...

disconnect all cables to drives. remove all cards except for videocard & 1 stick of ram. reseat those 2. reseat the motherboard power connector(s). look at the can shaped objects on the motherboard which are capacitors to see if domed as supposed to be flat topped. try another psu. clear the cmos as might kickstart the system.

I can see 3pins with a green jumper on 2 of them down the right hand corner of the mobo is this what i'm lookin for.

I tried the book ddp theres nothing in it about the cmos its not very usefull to be honest.

So far i have replaced the ram and took out and cleaned the fans and psu. I also took out all cards and tried a different video card

I'm wondering if its the psu when i turn the system on at the wall the monitor light goes green it then turns amber and says no single.
Both fans start to spin when i power up but a can hear a noise like one of the fans is trying to speed up it seems to try 3 times then gives up and a get 3 beeps.

I know its one of them problems thats hard to fix without the pc in front of you but i thank you for tryin.

i highly doubt that it is the PSU, mainly because when i broke my PSU, nothing would turn on, and you say that the fans begin to spin and the HDD light lights up, which means that there is power going to the components.
