Dvd rebuild onto CD?

Hi,
i looked around n saw some guide how to put CD games onto one DVD, but is there a way to do the opposite? Like some games, the sizes are about 800mb-1gig. Is is possible to rebuild it to make it smaller then put that DVD game onto CD instead of putting a 800mb on a DVD?

i want to back up a DVD Disc 800mb but i dont want to put it onto a DVD.
kind of a waste of a DVD. i was thinking about rebuild it so it will be smaller so therefore i can put it onto a 700mb CD. And wat i want to kno is..will the game works if its a DVD Disc but rebuild into a CD disc.
