Illegal Disc when using Nero

This is my first post here so first of all thanks for having me here =) My issue is i am having trouble getting an illegal disc error when I burn a VCD with Nero 7 Ultra. I have used Sony CD-R's as well as Maxell CD-Rpro discs and its the same error on both. I have a HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-117R Product Rev. 1.02 and the firmware I am finding to upddate it seems to be for Win 95/98 and instructs me to do it in DOS mode which I dont think i can do in XP. So if firmware is my issue can anyone point me to the exact firmware I might need and some brief help on how to actually do this and if flashing is needed how do I do that? Thanks in advance for the help and here is my Nero error log as well and I have enabled DMA since this error occured also.

both drives are set to DMA if available and still getting the error. Any other ideas?

Uninstall the drivers for both drives and reboot your puter, XP should reinstall the drivers and automatically set them to DMA.

I did as you said and it did activate DMA on both drives. but the error still occurs. So any other ideas? here is the newest error log from Nero....

Short of getting a new burner I don't have any other suggestions at this time...the OEM LG drives like the one you are using are just not very good. Someone else may stop by with some suggestions, but I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. Try reducing your burn speed to 8X or 10X and see if there is a difference.

What file type were your source files in and were they converted at some point to another file type? There could have been a problem in the conversion.

They were in AVI format then I changed them to mpeg, but the very first disc I burned worked fine then I havent got any vcd's to work since, oddly mp3's will burn fine though. So I am going to buy some different brand discs next to see if that helps although I have gotten this error using Sony discs and Maxell discs both so I dont think its the media. Out of 16 attempts to burn a VCD only the first one worked, all the rest have given me the illegal disc error. I have read about 20 different posts and all seem to say update the firmware abd the firmware I find for my CD-RW seems to be for Win 95/98 so I dont think i can use it, the instructions talk about doing stuff in DOS mode so not sure I can actually do it and I dont want to mess up my CD-RW =(
