my cpu freezes at random times with in 2 min of turning it on i have 256 ram. also i have an ati 9200 graphics card and sometimes it it comes up with a notice saying that it doesnt work anymore and to restart my cpu to fix the problem but that doesnt work. any suggestions?

Those that are more knowledgable than I will be able to help you. However, let me ask, because this information is important, what cpu do you have, what motherboard, and what operating system? Also, how old is your system?

In addition, have you done anything out of the ordibnaary with your system? Any electrical storms recently? Do you have a power surge protector?

i have a kt600 soyo or dragon im not sure. i also have an amd athlon xp 2500+ it says in it im not sure what kind or anything. im running windows xp on it and no electrical storms lately. also my ati graphics card comes up with a notice saying VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands. then it says VPU Recover was unable to fully recover from a hardware deadlock, and has switched to software rendering. to restore rendering you must restart your cpu. i have restarted it and it does the samething

i think you need to buy a better fan for your cpu. Proberly overheating

My AMD 2400+ use to do the same thing as yours. Come to find out it was overheating. Replaced with a aftermarket heat sink and then the computer was one fine running machine. I still have the aftermarket heat sink under my bed. It is the thermaltake TR2. Download this program and check your CPU temp.

I don't remember if that 9200 has a fan on it. Does it? If it does, make sure that it is spinning.

At any rate, download the newest ATI drivers. I only download and install the driver. I do not use the Control Center.

Before you install teh new drivers, uninstall the old drivers, and reboot.

The 9200 does not have a fan on it. I have one running in my older P3 combination and it has never given me an issue with its passive cooling.

Try a different card, if you have access to one. If it does the same thing, then your CPU heatsink and fan may be a problem, as was suggested earlier.

It can also be your PSU or your RAM. Too many things can play into the mix.
