I have encoded 3 avi files to mpeg2 movies using TMPGEnc 2.5 that play perfectly on the computer with amazing quality (each file about 1.4GB). Each one is configured at 720x480(720x406 Letterboxed), Progressive 23.976fps with 3:2 pulldown(29.??fps externally) with a 2-pass VBR averaging around 4100kbps.

I then use NERO VISION EXPRESS 3 to transcode them with a custom menu, leaving all settings on automatic. I burn them to a file on the hard disk so I can check them using a multimedia player. 2 Different MM players play the DVD files perfectly, so I then burn them with NERO BURNING ROM SE as a DVD-Video set to DVD-ROM booktype for DVD+R, the resulting DVD is always a coaster with ONE important exception.

I decided to one cut of the avis down to 2 min using virtualdub (as a test) then encode as I would the 3 large avis (same settings) to a small mpeg2 (around 70mb). I tried sticking this in NERO VISION EXPRESS 3 with the default menu and all (no changes) for a quick session. I then burnt the vob files with NERO BURNING ROM SE and the DVD WORKED PERFECTLY!

How can a small, 2min version of the same exact mpeg2 files work perfectly but the same thing extended their full lengths not come out a coaster after burning the vob files?
