My daughter is looking to buy a iPod 30 or 60. Is this the best value for her money? I have seen "Buy now" 60s for 325 USD on eBay. Will the new players play unprotected videos ect? I trust the AfterDawn population to come up with expert advice. I would prefer a system that uses replaceable memory chips. These can be found for very cheap, 1/8th US retail, buy buying them from Asia. I have learned no matter what kind of commonly used chip, you can find it for a crazy price in Asia if you hunt. I do not know enough about these players to know if any of them use replaceable chips.

Hi Mez, welcome to the iPod forums :-)

That all depends on the amount of content she is looking to store. 30Gb seems like a lot, but once you begin to add videos, that hard drive space seems to disappear rather quickly -- so you have to choose wisely according to your needs. Another notable difference between the two models is this battery life..

The 30Gb iPod manages up to 14 hours of music playback, 3 hours of slideshows with music, & up to 2 hours of video playback~

*whereas*

The 60Gb offers up to 20 hours of music playback, 4 hours of slideshows with music & up to 3 hours of video playback.

So really, the 60gb iPod is a better investment, as it has a stronger battery life, and double the HDD capacity of it's 30 gig cousin..

Yeah, with no problems whatsoever. If you have a look at the stickied tutorials at the top of this forum, they will show details on how to do this correctly.

Are you referring to mem chips like SD/CompactFlash/MemStickDuo etc? The iPod doesn't support these directly, however, there are adapters available that will allow you to connect these to your iPod for photo/image transfer purposes. (for more info, have a look here - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19... )

If I were you, I'd probably go for the 60GB iPod Video if you are willing to pay the $400 for it. I have the 30GB version and have approx. 20 videos (half full movies) and like 250 songs and am using 10GB of space already! Plus, the added battery life of the 60gig makes it worth it in the long run anyways.

I also like the 30GB Creative Zen Vision. Although I do not own one, It is a product that I would definantly purchase. You have to pay an extra $80 in comparison to the 30GB iPod Video, but the bigger screen makes up for it.

But, as Lethal said, it all comes down to personal preference. Get what would best be suited for you. Good luck!

Thanks!

I got it! They use HDs not chips.

I will pass this along to all you helpful folks. I have seen 60s for as little as 325 USD while the 30 can be gotten for 223.

My son believed there were issues with non-ipod videos. I checked here for guides which lead me to belive his friends were wrong. Now I am convinved.

Thanks again!
