Good afternoon!
This is my first post so constructive criticisms are preffered.
And congratulations to me i just got a ps2 (yea i know about time)
Game: Darkwatch
Copy: Original
Media: TDK 8x
Burn speed:2x/4x
Ps2 modification: memory exploit on Fat Ps2
Burn Method: Rebuild & simple dvd decrypt
I tried the popular DVDdecrypter-isobuster-dvdcdgen-dos-nero method mentioned in this forum a few times, each time resulting in various outcomes. First time, i received a black screen. Second time, the game boots with a flash of the Capcom logo then it blanks out, then the ps2 does the DVD check, resulting in the red "wtd, this aint a psx/ps2 media" screen by sony.
Some sidenotes:
-i have burned a different title and works flawlessly
-there are 5 exported files after dvdcdgen (instead of the usual three or four i.e. '.004')
-no patch is available for this title
-not a dvd-9 (imagesize = 4.24gb)
-no dummy file exists in isobuster scan
-first attempt was by merging (0+1+2+3+4); second attempt was by merging (0+1)=a (2+3)=b then a+b+4= Final.iso
It would be of great help if anyone can comment or resolute to this thread. Thank you in advance =D!
-Purple Brian

Hi first of all welcome to Afterdawn!
I find that doing a direct DVD copy in Nero gives me much better results than DVD Decrypter also TDK are decent media however I find that Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are much more reliable.
Also
What speed are your TDKS rated at?
What format are they? ie -R, +R, -RW, +RW
What burner are you using? (As some burners highly favor + and some -)
When was the last time you updated your firmware?
All this info would be useful to help me to help you <(^_^)>

Thanks for the warm welcome Paul!
My burner is an NEC dvdrw nd2500a, which is +/-
I have never firmware flashed it; from what i've read, the firmware upgrade will only allow me to use the dual layer feature locked; which is something of no use to me.
My TDKs are +R's rated at 1-16x
I have yet to use the Nero Direct burning method; but please further instruct me so i can cease the Coaster production.

Theres the newest firmware this will provide you with more compatability for your NEC also I find that 16x media can be very problematic for your PS2.
I'v used Taiyo Yuden 8x media for over 150 backups with not one coaster.
One final note: Burning at half the maximum speed of the media you are using often gives the best and safest result.
Also if you click on the word Nero it will transfer you to a download.
Hope this helps,
Paul

Sorry to say but i've not resolute the problem, instead have managed to increase my number of problems.
The media i was using was Taiwan-made TDKs (stupid costco! >:[ ). I also had some Fujifilm, which are ranked at 2nd class.
I attempted the booktype method with the fuji at half its potential rate (4x) but the same problem persisted (capcom screen then DVD check). This was done using DVD Decrypter w/ booktyping.
In terms of firmware, i downloaded the new firmware but could Not install it; instead i am bugged with a "target nec nd-2500a is not found correctly" message.
No worries my tenacity is still intact and i am still eager to get that game copied so my nephews dont destroy my only copy.
Some new sidenotes:
-armored core 2 was burned w/o booktyping on my taiwan TDKs and are in good condish (using dvd decrypt)
-rebuilding has not helped.
-ps2hack asked me which method: memory exploit using ARMAX w/homemade slidetool.
Thank you for your inputs so far, i appreciate your efforts.

The only thing I can suggest is buy either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim 8x DVD+R media and booktype it.
Tokijin booktypes his 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD+R and this produces good quality scans.
Also if you can do a disq quality scan and post the results then we will be able to confirm wether it is the bad media or not, download here:
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html (Its the top one called Nero CD/DVD speed)

i executed the Nero cd-dvd Speed quality scan but i get this error that says 'Drive does not support this function.'
Additional sidenotes:
-default firmware is 1.7 not 1.07
-latest firmware upgrade will not install.
I dont think the TDKs are that bad, i've burned kingdom hearts II, FFX, and FFX-2 without a problem.

Hi are you bookyping your plus format heres a guide here on how to do it with DVDdecrypter.
http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
The only possible reason I can think of is the media you are using also 16x rated media is known to cause multiple playback issues and its a fact that 8x media does produce alot better quality scans that 16x media does.
Hope this helps.

Well it depends on where you live, I'v just recently moved from a place called Harrogate/Leeds which I used to go clubbing 4 nights a week with my mates.
But I'v recently moved back in with my Mum and Dads house so lifes a real bore when all your best mates live 70 miles away and the only place within 4 miles is one local pub. :(

Y'Ouch that's a bummer! At least you're not stuck with the hip-hop clubs in America.
well i just finished burning using my laptop with a fujifilm 8x at 4x; same problem persisted. I would post a disc quality scan but i get an error doing so.
Capcom screen for a split second, Dvd check. I'll purchase a 10 pack of verbatim this weekend and see if that helps; highly doubt it.

If you go for Verbatim make sure that they bear the code MCC****** and not CMC MAG, hell if your lucky enough they might code out as TY's although I'v only ever heard of them appearing in England.
Also make sure that they are 8x graded media.
PS I'v done some research for you, most people are going to frown upon this however I'v come to the conclusion that minus format suits your NEC drive more as you can see below;
ALL SCANS ARE TAKEN FROM CDFREAKS OFFICIAL TESTING PAGE FOR THE DRIVE NEC ND2500A, IF ANYONE HAS ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS I WILL REMOVE.
This is Verbatim 8x DVD-R
This is Verbatim 8x DVD+R
This is Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R
This is Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R
It is upto you which one you choose to go for,
Regards,
Paul

Yeah I really think this is just a case of media issues. My PS2 doesn't like Made in Taiwan media (except Verb's- which're made in Taiwan or Singapore), I go with high quality Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's. I've burned 200+ games to Yuden000T02 and TYG02 with zero coasters. You can find TY's and Verb's locally, if you know where to look. If you go with Taiyo Yuden's, look for the octogonal spacer on top of the 50 spindles. That denotes they are Taiyo Yuden's. If they have a circular spacer, they will be Sony media. Sam's Club is a terrific place to buy DVD media, if you have a membership there. I'd go with 4x or 8x TY's or Verb's, I've just seen too many mixed results with the 16x media for PS2 backups.
106. Q. Where can I find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji and Sony have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no guarantee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. The exception is that Sony MIJ 8x DVD+R's will always code out as Yuden000T02. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

okay gotcha and thanks!
i'll pick up some verbatims or taiyo's, whatever being the cheapest at fry's on thursday. I am still kinda pissy knowing that i bought 200 TDKs at costco which will not fulfill all of my dvd burning needs.
I'll keep ya'll posted once i know if the TY's will solve this problem. Once again much thanks guys!
