Audio out of sync, games freeze

My friends playstation (version 9 or 10) has been freezing when playing original games, and the audio goes out of sync. He'll be playing NBA Live 06 or Madden, works perfectly until 5-10 minutes, then the commentary audio will be out of sync with the plays, and the game will slow down and occasionally freeze. Anyone know what the problem is?

probably dirty laser or scratched disk.

it's happening with more than one game though, i'll tell him to clean the laser and see if that helps.

he has Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, just dip a q-tip into the bottle and rub the lens with it?

Yeah, that kind of alcohol is use to clean sencetive things, but all I did was get a can of compressed air and cleaned around the ps2 lens but now on it, When I opened it there was quite alot of dirt when that blew a away I put the lid over the disc and tested it, normally I couldnt get a ps one game to load up, but you dont HAVE to clean the lens, unless it appears dirty I cleaned around the place with the can of compressed air, also in the "Hard to reach places" use the cotton buds to clean those places, also I have the same problem, the backup games work on my friends mod chipped ps2 and doesnt work on my ps2 using swap magic 3.6 . so all Iam gonna do is chip my ps2.
