ok the burner can burn dvds but i wont read any blank cd-rs, can someone help me?

Try burning one..or reading one with something on it...

it wont read one with stuff on it nor will it burn. when i try to bur it says "please insert black media" or something like that

When did this start happening? Have you done a recent fimware update? Have you tried uninstalling the drive then reinstalling? How old is your drive? More info please =)

my drive is pretty new juss bought it about a month ago and its been happening ever since i got it. i juss got the latest firmware update a couple of days ago(bsoy).

What do you have your drive set as? Master/Slave? Check your IDE cables and jumper settings, might want to try installing the drive the other way. Hopefully that helps, it could also be a hardware problem meaning you have a bum drive =(
