http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=3912 - This guide is really helpful, if you are having problems with Utorrent this spead my d/l up loads.

Also i think a common mistake being made, which gets overlooked, is people not using static IP, i couldnt work out why i kept getting NAT error every 2 weeks for about a week and then it would go fine again for 2 weeks and then bad. Today i realised its because my IP is alternating between 2 IPs, so my Port forwarding of cource dosn't work when it switches to the other IP, but now it should all be fine that i've sorted. This is something i think people over look.

WOW my spelling was bad before i edited.

Wait what?

Your port forwarding doesn't work when your modem switches IP's?

Port forwarding is done by the router, even if you're using UPnP, DHCP still dynamically updates and distributes sub IP's.

So, even if your ROUTER IP changes...i.e. your HOME IP changes, your box will still update and your forward will still work.

I think what you meant is that occasionally your sub-IP, i.e. tier 2 IP (begins like 192.168.xxx.xxx) changes because another computer on your network took that sub-IP. That happens to me, as we have about 8 devices on our network and I don't keep my computer on 24-7. Sometimes I'm 192.168.1.1, sometimes I'm 192.168.1.2, up through 1.8, depending on what other devices were online when the DHCP table renewed.

I only bothered to point this out because it would THOROUGHLY confuse someone with a dynamic IP and do nothing to help them fix the problem---even though the way you describe it isn't far from correct.

With that said, I always advocate UPnP for noobs when available, however it has and does crash. 3 updates ago azureus's stopped working for me and I had to go back to traditional forwarding, then last night after a new update it defaulted to ON and thoroughly foobared my computer for a couple minutes until I figured out what had happened.

Yeah, sorry i didnt describe what i meant too well, i posted that at 3AM where i am so i was tired. My router picks up everytime my IP changes .1 through to .4 but you have to enable the forwading rule for the certain IP and you can only have the rule enabled for one IP at a time.

Thought so.

If you really want it to not do that, you can turn OFF dhcp and turn ON static IP assigning, but I wouldn't recommend that.

I'm not going to, what i do turn on static IP my router thros a strop and refuses to work, all connection cut out, so then i have to turn dhcp back on. It doesnt really bother me, only take a minute to go and change the rule between ips
