problem with converting movies to .mp4

I seem to have a problem converting my movies to the proper form needed to view them on the ipod (.mp4). I have tried several different programs and severel different formats, the formats included, .mpg, .avi, .dob. And the programs include Cucusoft Ipod movie and video converter, PQ DVD to Ipod video converter,Videora ipod converter and Xilisoft ipod video converter. They all seem to have a common problem when I try to convert them, They don't have sound in the end result. The picture shows and plays fine, the way it should, but it doesn't have anysound what so ever. I don't know whether or not this is a problem with my computer, or a mistake I am making when I try to convert these movies. I have followed several different guides with no luck so far. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

First of all, welcome to the iPod forums.
To get things started, I suspect that you may have the unstable 1.1 firmware on your iPod. To check for this, go to settings-->about on your iPod. Next to "version" it will say either 1.0, 1.1, or 1.1.1.
If it says 1.1, then you will need to upgrade to version 1.1.1 firmware, as 1.1 has video playback issues. Here's how to do so:
1.Download the latest iPod Software here: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
2. Connect your iPod and open the downloaded software.
3. Click "update" and it will update to version 1.1.1 for you.

Thanks, my ipod needed to be updated, but the problem I am having is on my computer, before its even on the ipod. The sound doesnt work at all for the video once converted, no matter how high I turn up the volume on my computer. The videos that I have work fine in .AVI form and .mpg form, but once its converted to .mp4 it doesnt work at all.

Okay then. That is kind of a weird problem.
1. It may be the settings that you are converting the videos at. Try to re-convert the videos with different audio settings and see if that works.
2. What converter are you currently using that has this problem? Is it multiple converters that give you the same problem? If it is, then post back for further assistance.

Ive tried several different audio settings, and it only worked once, but it would cut in and out at different times, and the video would like pause and keep going. The converters that I have currently used are all the ones mentioned in my first post

I'm not sure what the problem could be if you have the same problem with that many converters. Maybe somebody else knows, but I don't. Sorry.

What format of the video do you want? .AVI would be too big to upload there, but the mpeg that doesn't convert would work, I'll have to do it tommorow though, I'm not at my house.

I don't think that it is a problem with the converter, as he has tried multiple converters already. Try as dkmopq suggests and see if he can help.

@bryman,
Have downloaded wall.mpg and tested. Cucusoft iPod movie/video converter costed around 2 seconds to convert it to iPod mp4.
I play the mp4 file using Quicktime Player and iTunes, perfect with great video and audio quality.

I think there is something wrong with your audio settings.
Might as well try the following solution.
If you play the iPod video files you converted and find that audio is a little bit lower or there is no audio at all, please check your Volume control for your audio device and select "Stereo Mix" or "Wave out Mix" as the recording source in the Recording Control window, and then reconvert.
a) Right Click the "Volume" button in the taskbar, choose "Adjust Audio Properties".
b) Go to "Audio" tab, click "Volume" from "Sound Recording" area.
c) Select "Wave out Mix" or "Stereo Mix".

I tried to do the sounds settings thing with no luck, my sound card doesn't seem to have those settings (mono/stereo mix). Also, I downloaded the .mp4 version of the clip, and it as well as the other versions, sound doesn't work. Maybe I am haveing a problem with quicktime?

Thanks for all your help guys, I finally figured that I would try and just put a video on the ipod to see if it works, and sure enough it works fine. I am thinking the problem is defiantly with quicktime. The only other problem I have is after a while the movie gets out of sync with the words, but thats ok, thats an easy fix. After countless nights of staying up, reading different guides on the site, reading these posts over and over, I finally figured out the problem.
