Things you need 1.fab decrypter 2.9.7.6
2. dvd shrink
rip movie with fab decypter to your hard drive then encode with shrink. (there is no need to run your vobs through vobblanker, pgcedit, or fixvts, because fab removes the "bad sector protection" completely, dont waste your time thanx have fun backing up

And what happens if you wanna blank the endless amounts of FBI warnings/commentary screens and the abundance of unnecessary trailers that Sony packs into DVDs?

I ran it through VOBB and removed all the aforementioned stuff and I was given a great compression ratio when it came to Shrink.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I was wondering if there is a new variant of ARccOS on this one. I got an error with DVD Decrypter when it was parsing the files. An L-EC error in VTS_15. This was before the rip though so it could have been a corrupted/missing/damaged IFO File.

Either way, I found nothing special on this DVD. I really made some changes on this movie because the navigation sucked!!! I think Sony is purposely trying to break our DVD players with such inefficient DVDs... I will post a fix in this thread later on to correct the navigation problems, but you will lose all Extra features, previews, Wanings, etc... Basically just main movie with a fully functioning main menu.

Nero Recode2 with AnyDVD running in the background (as always) did the trick for me ...

Every Tuesdays people go out and spend $15-$25 for each of their new originals and yet won't spend that just once for AnyDVD (which also works on music cd's). Instead they'll spend hours running the movies through a half dozen different programs. I've yet to understand this. To each their own, I guess.

I just updated the fix. I forgot to delete 2 cell commands in PGC 6 of the VTSM. While this does not affect playback, it is more correct!!

Sorry for the Delay. I did some testing to make sure that everything works ok, but you should still test playbeck before making a final burn to be safe.

Here is the Link to the fix for the FULL-SCREEN version:

http://www.files.bz/files/4515/HOS_FIX.ZIP

And here is a copy of the changes:
Quote:
-Removed all Warnings
-Corrected IFO Structure
-Removed all bogus cells in movie
-Removed all extra(duplicate) uneeded cells in Main menu
-Removed Extra/unused Menu buttons
-Optimized DVD Navigation
-Safely changed to Jump straight to Main menu
-Increased compatibility with older DVD Players
-Increased Compatibility with Lower quality Media (you should still use HQ media)
-Shrunk Main Menu
-Removed VMG PGC 2

Did Not Fix:

-Did not correct DVD Player time display (does not affect playback)
I forgot to fix the time display. All this will do is rather than the time display being at 00:00:00 or whatever when the movie starts, it will be 00:01:24 or something like that. It would have only been a cosmetic fix.

Also, I forgot to mention that I removed the Layer break.

I find useing AnyDVD boring, I want to go in hands on a kick sonys ass the hard way. You probably get your oil change at the local midus. I get a happy feeling when I smashing on ripgaurd and arccos finding new ways to bet there protections new programs to use. to me its fun jmo

@FatalAD Help me understand this a little better. You're saying want to go in and crack this and hack that and yet your thread title is "Easiest Way to Back Up "Hostel". ?????

Don't get me wrong... I'm not trying to bust your nuts. It's just that every week someone posts " the easiest way...." and then they state how they ran this program and then that. None of that sounds easy compared to shrink/clone w/anydvd.

Edit: So this post isn't wasted, here is a fix for Mamoirs of a Geisha Full-screen:

http://www.files.bz/files/4515/Geisha_Fix.zip

Also, the previous fix was for the full-screen version of Hostel.

Just a thought. I too use AnyDVD. Great program, no muss no fuss. Some of the people here may be too young to own a credit card. I may be wrong but isn't this the only method of purchasing it? Just a thought.

I was so ugly when I was a kid, my parents used to take me everywhere just so they wouldn't have to kiss me goodbye.

The kids that are too young to have a credit card surely have parents with credit cards ...

It should be no problem making a back up for this one. If you have the latest versions of CloneDVD and AnyDVD, it should work. If not then just the latest version of DVDfab decrypter, and burn with Nero. No need to use vobblanker, pgcedit, or fixvts. Just like FatalAD said in his previous post, fab removes the bad sector protection.

Also just wanted to add, for the value AnyDVD is well worth the price. Me personally, I'd rather use a program that I know works and is constantly updated, instead of jumping from one program to another just to see if it works or not.

Well damn I guess I spoke to soon. I backed up Hostel today and everything seemed to go fine yet I go to play it and nothing. I have 3 dvd players and none of them would play it. I can't get to the menu or anything, just keeps saying "Reading" I backed it up using DVD Shrink and AnyDVD in the background onto a Verbatim DVD-R. Not really sure what I could have done wrong. Any ideas anyone ?

Whenever I have that problem I just eject, and close again, I do that a few times and it usually works. I too used DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in the background, it played perfect for me I think I used Verb +Rs...

Me again :-) Well got it done now. Tried again using Sony DVD-R and running the movie through DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink while having Any DVD running. I wish I knew when I should use both Shrink and Decrypter. A lot of times Shrink works perfect then others I need to Decrypt too. Stil learning I guess. So far I really like Sony media best. It cost a bit more but hey you get what you pay for right.

I just thought you might like to know that you can remove all of that in DVD Shrink as well so again as FatalAD has suggested there really is no need for VOB Blanker unless of course you are trying to keep some type of menu intact, but if all your after is the main movie (which will produce the best quality) then Shrink will complete that just fine.

Cheers
