I've been working on a project that involves condensing multiple discs of a TV show into one. I figure that I might be able to rip the movies from these DVDs to a specific, calculated size, so that when I rip them all they will fit perfectly on a DVD-R (VCD-DVD I'm thinking) and still be as large as they possibly can so they can be of the highest quality. Every program I've used has some flaw or another. Handbrake for the Mac adds a second or two from the next chapter to the end of the video. It also cannot read some chapters, and is just more complicated in doing what I'm trying to do.
I've tried other programs for Windows, such as A1 DVD ripper, ImTOO DVD Ripper, and others. They are perfect, except they do not rip to a specific size.
Is there any program for either of these two OSs that can do what I need?

DVD Shrink would do it easiest for you.
Just copy the films to your hdd.
Then using the re-author function add the selected titles to a disc compilation, as long as you set the disk size correctly, Shrink will compress the files to fit the disc.
If you want to pre-configure each episodes size in MB then just use the custom size option and re-save all the episodes to another folder in the size you want them to be.

DVD shrink is awesome.

Once you have shrunk it to your HD, then use a DivX encoder to get the movie down to a decent size. DVD Shrink will take a dual layer disc down to 4gb and then DivX can get that down to 700mb.
