Is my panasonic 53 inch HD projection monitor really HD??

I bought a Panasonic 53 inch projection monitor (PT-53WX53) a few years back and have enjoyed it, but I still haven't made the jump to HD yet. I tried using the DVI inputs to a DVD player but I really didn't notice a difference from composit hookups at all. Is this normal? I also understand that dvd's are not HD quality by any means, but I thought it would look a little better. Now with new devices coming out...
Blue ray and DVD-HD players, Xbox 360 HD hookups, will these look way better on my TV with the DVI hook up or not? It also says in the manual that to view DTV you need to have a component cables. So, now I am thinking this TV is not a true HDTV. Can someone help shed some light on me?

According to Panasonic's specs your TV can handle 1080i HD. You need a true HD source to appreciate the capabilites of your display. Try hooking up either an HDTV source (satellite or cable box) or an upconverting DVD player (which converts 480i/p to 1080i). An XBOX360 game at 1080i should also look good.

So when I had a DVI hookup for this DVD player I had it was still actually viewing it in 420i?

I have been looking at up conversion dvd players and they all hookup via HDMI outputs. I have a DVI output not a MDMI output on my TV. Does this mean I should maybe looking at a HDMI tv set?

I think you can connect an HDMI device to your TV's DVI INPUT by using this adapter:
