Hi, I just tried my MGS3 Snake Eater backup, (Its USA and im on a PAL console), I put in my AR2, then I waited till the menu put in MGS2 properly, did add codes went to start without codes, pressed x, it sed updating, hot swapped, and then it started spinning, the screen went black then onto 'Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc.',

Heres my theories:

1. Bad Media (However, a copied DVD Movie plays fine on that media on the PS2)
2. Because it's a US game
3. my TOC isn't big enough (it's 4.25 and my copy is 4.24)

Any ideas?

here is my first idea, get a set up for your PS2 that is actually made to load back ups and you will have a lot less problmes.
But movies are not very picky about media, i have had plenty of cases where i could copy a movie to a DVD which worked fine, but i could not get games to work at on on them.
In fact when i started out and was trying to find the right media, when i got one that i could not get games to work on well, like TDK printable DVD's, i just saved them and used them for movies.

Also if you get the right set up (Swap Magic & flipto or a good mod chip) then you should have no problems playing an NTSC game on a PAL system. But your TV has to support it or the game will either be in black & white or the screen will be totally flipping out due to the screen rate differences.

And with the correct set up you will not have to worry about the TOC at all.

Could'nt agree more with the above.
The method you are using is a very inconsistent one, I know cause I used to do it. There are too many variables.
Just get swap magic if you dont want to splash out too much and you won't believe the ease of playing back-ups compared to what you are doing now. (even without a flip top , if you are already using a slide tool method)

a good mod chip (DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity) is generally
in the range of $50.
Yes there are places like teammodders.com that you can send it to and have them install it. I think they charge like $35
The postage for me, priority mail, was like $15 (insured)
The installer there is in CA and i sent it from NC so you can get a gauge of the distance.
