I am using DVD Decrypter and maxell dvd-r 8x dvds. What write speed should i use for my ps2 backups?

You'll want to start out at 4X. If that doesn't work, go down until it works.

depends on burners

lite on 1693s up 8x
benq 1620 and up 8x
nec 3520 and up 4x

all other i don't give a damn

i say the same, with and 8X disc you should burn at 4X
If that gives you a lot of problems then drop the speed down.
Most of the time with DVD Decrypter it is going to burn at 4X anyway as it burns at half the speed of the DVD you put in.
I have had to burners now Sony DRU-700A and now a BenQ 1655
both of them burned at 4X even if i set it to 1X
