NEC ND3550A 16x DVD±RW writing Problem - really Slow!!!

hey guys,

i just bought a NEC ND3550A, and as im okay with computers (not excellent) i mistakenly thought this would be incredibly easy (like my pioneer writer was)

anyways so i installed it as a slave drive

and decided i would test it.
problem is it is so slow!!!!

burt on a ridisc 4x DVD-r roughly a file about 4 gig in size and it took 40minutes ????? the burnt file worked perfectly but as you can imagine 40 mins is a bit..... much

i also tried a panasonic 4x DVD+RW with a file 1gb in size and that took just under 11 minutes

now as you can imagine im a bit p**sed off.

so my question to you is - is the drive broken
or
am i doing something wrong?

ive got DMA enabled - and
diabled built-in IMAPI Burn Engine
cant seem to find a firmware update

anyways hope you can help before i send it back and stick with my old pioneer

It may be a firmware issue. You can get an update here:

I personally have the 1Y6 rpc1 firmware for my drive. Works great.

Solved -

it was my bios - it wasnt set up to auto detect - so it wasnt reading it - just changed it to auto detect and bam -

fully working - proper speed writer
