I am fairly new to this sight but it has been overly helpt full. So first of all. Thanks. As of rite now im currently in the process of rebuiling my compter to better handle burning my DVD collection. I have already picked up a BENQ burner now im just courious about the best processor to buy? any ideas would be great. Also im currenty running a MEMOREX DVD rom that reads at 8x. Would I bennefit upgrading it to a 16X? I know it kinda of a dumb question but my current 1.4 athlon pegs out while dvdshrink is running it. Thanks again.
hi Renult,
a faster processor is a good investment and if you have the money i'd maybe look at a 3.2 chipset as well as some more ram, maybe 1024 may help you out
I agree with andmerr, a 3.2 or higher processor and as much ram as you can afford. I have 2gb of ram and a 3.4 processor. As long as you are building it you might as well build one that will easily handle the strain of DVD backups.
Also consider getting a Heatsink/Fan combo that is better than the stock one (especially if you plan to overclock). I love my Zalman, looks like a copper ferris wheel.
Antec TX1050B Case w/500W Power Supply

If you want the absolute best performance especially with Shrink get a dual core processor. Shrink is multithreaded so a dual core can use 100% of each core for the analysis and encoding.
I just got Brothers Grimm so I'll do a test right now and report back with the results.

Ok, My set up for Brothers Grimm was to replace the extras folder with a still image and remove the French 5.1 and Director's Commentary audio tracks. Main movie compression is 75.8 %. Deep Analysis and High Quality Error Compensation were enabled.
