I have the Inspiron 6400 that comes with the 8X DVD Burner model TSST CORP DVD+-RW TS-L532B.

The burner does not record DVDs faster that 2.4x when they are supposed to record at 8x and I alreday checked and both the primary and secundary IDE Channels are running on DMA modes. It aint the media because I have tried different brands that support up to 16x and have also used different burning software.

The primary IDE Channel says Ultra DMA Mode 5 and the secundary IDE Channel says Ultra DMA Mode 2.

Anyone else with the same problem?

What can it be?

Could be your firmware isn't up to date and if that is the case, it will not have instructions on how to burn the faster discs that your using.

I'm having a different problem. I have the Inspiron e1505 which is basically the same machine. I also have the TSST CORP DVD+-RW TS-L532B 8X DVD Burner.

When I decode DVD's to my hard drive using DVD Decryptor, the read/copy speed runs from 1.7x - 3.5x. It takes an hour to complete a DVD on my e1505 vs. my 8x speed DVD writer on my desktop which does it in 15 minutes.

Otherwise, the encoding and burn speed seem good with DVD Shrink / Nero, although I haven't tried burning yet since I reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows XP. I'll give it a try again and see how good the burn speed is.

Let me know when you try it. I've tried burning with Nero and Decrypter and no matter what speed I choose, from 4x to 8x, it will ALWAYS record at a speed from 1.9x - 2.5x.

I want to know if there is a solution before wasting a day on the phone with dell support.
