I have just made the transition to the HD world and needed some advice. I have currently have the Sony SXRD 50" and wanted to know how come when somehwat close up the picture looks distorted/err pixelated. Its hard to describe even with an hdmi cable running from my upscaled dvd player running 1080i. I was under the impression that it would of had the sharpness such as that of a computer. Any suggestions or comments on how i should connect it or what i should do to get real HD quality will be much appreciated. THanks

A display this size was not really meant to be seen close-up. The ideal viewiing distance is around 2x the diagonal size of your screen. I'm seated about 8.5 feet from my 50" display and the picture quality from my Toshiba HD-DVD player at 1080p is superb.

Thanks for you quick response. Just continuing, my Tv is 1080p but cant accept 1080p signals directly it converts to it from 1080i. Is this going to be a problem in the future? Should i replace the one i just bought this week for a different brand or what are you recommendations?

Your current TV is just right for HD-DVD and BluRay which are both 1080p so no need to upgrade for now. You've got a top notch display and you are ready for the future.

hey erro5, i see that you have the same tv as i do. how is your HD-DVD working for you? is it pixelated or not? thanks for the advice, i will look up the screen door effect.

@ dblbogey7, the SXRD technology which is based on LCoS (3-Chip) techonolgy doesn't suffer from "the screen door effect" like LCD does.

You're right - the fill factor of SXRD practically eliminates screen door.

i actually know what you mean munx, i'm looking for a new tv and the tv you have is at the top of my list right under the sixty inch sony sxrd, they have amazing picture capabilities. those two tvs are actually the best tv's i've looked at so far. i'm suprised you had something negative to say about them. but anyway i think i know what you're talking about, i was standing close to the tv and in the background i could see the mountains kinda grainy, but it was only in the background that i could see a somewhat pixelated display. and when not so close up the tv's picture looked perfect. i can't wait to see what real 1080p looks like. post anything else you happen to not like about your tv because they are expensive and with my budget i'll be saving for a while to get either of the tv's i'm looking at. and i would hate to get one and be the least bit disappointed.

So everyone knows, The SXRDs cannot except 1080p via HDMI. However, they can except 1080p via the Firewire/i.Link ports.
