High Guy's i have a 6200 with turbocache on a PCI-E slot. well i was wondering if i should get the 1800 or the 7900gt, i know that the 7900gt is the best 256mg available, which is debatable, but i wanted 512mg... my limit is 410.00 all said and done with.. got any ideas guys?

thanx, and post specs here to..

Out of the 2 i'd go for the X1800XT 512 as it's a bit quicker & should cost the same or less than a 7900GT :)

I'd go with the 7900GT, but hen again I run and SLi capable board.
The 7900GT can be overclocked very easily to xxx speeds as they share the same chip set and cooler, so apart from the user or the supplier doing the clocking, there is no difference in the cards.
You also get the SLi feature if required at a later date.
If however you're determined to have 512MB on the card, then theres no contest and you'll have to get the X1800 card.
You're not going to be dissapointed with either cards performance, so its not likely you'll make a bad choice.

Nice system Big... i was looking at the X1900X on an canadian web site, and they are selling it for like 380.00 or somthing..?? ? ?

the reason i wanted the 7900 is because of the 24 pipelines compared to the ATI's 16.. thats why i want/wanted the 1900 because of the pixel shader unit processor that the 1800 does not have...

BTW: i dont care about crossfire or SLI.. so i am probably going to get the ATI.. mainly because of the RAM size, but also becuase it will last(max games out longer) than the 7900gt...

and on some benchmarks i saw, the ATI did better than the 7900gtx.. I know that that can go back and fowards.. i was just wondering...

I have 410.00 total as yall know.. what do yall think would be the best bang for the buck?

i am 14 and i know i dont know as much as yall, that is why i was asking...

thanx,
fihsnerd...

formerly know as triock.. :)

I personally would go with the X1800XT, but to be honest, both of those cards are very good. If you're into that sort of thing, both cards are multi-GPU compatible, although 7900GT SLi will outperform crossfire. However, you've given me a link for the 1900 series, which is a lot more expensive, and far faster than the 7900GT.
The X1900 series is more a rival to the 7900GTX, and you're looking at a £300 price tag for the cheapest variant.

If you're looking at one of those, the HIS ICEQ 3 silent X1900XT is the best one to go for. Although it's a £50 premium over the powercolor one (although that's a special offer price, normally you're looking at abt £35 more), it will run cooler, quieter, faster and be more overclockable than the other reference-cooler based variants.
But firstly, are you doubly sure you want a 1900? It's obviously a big jump from a 6200. Assuming since you quote a UK site, you're limit is £410, the HIS ICEQ3 will see you with about £48 change once all is, as you say said and done.
Oh, and avoid the XTX version, the extra cost just isn't worth the tiny increase in performance, you can OC an XT to match an XTX easy.

i totaled it and it is like 300.00 and i live in america and converted it and all that fun stuff... i want to get the 1900 because i know that i will be able to outperform any other card out their, which is debatable.. but the 7900gtx is pretty good too....

that card is soo much more expensive here than in america, i am soo happy! :)

i was finding a really low grade one on newegg for like 450.00 or somthing...

!! i have a 450 stock ps.. but i have an older 500wt ps.. do you think i will be o.k.?

thanx,
FIHS nerd..

I'm surprised you've gone for the Crossfire edition first, that's a slower design at a higher price. Usually you'd go for the cheaper card first, then add the CE later, but if you want to make hay while the sun shines, that's fine, I see the logic in that.
The 7900GTX may eclipse the XTX in certain games, but generally the X1900 will come out on top. What make is your 450W PSU? If it isn't a high quality one, It won't cope with a GPU like that.

Nice choice of card FIHSNERD, altough i agree with sammorris about the crossfire edition thing. If your refering to Ageia pyhsics card then they only really work with game titles that have been coded for it but from what i've seen they can make a huge difference in them games..... here's a link to some side by side footage of with & without http://physx.ageia.com/footage.html :)

Power supply looks OK but $88 isn't all that much for a 600W unit, and there's been a recent RMA. The graphics card will do you fine.

The Triple pixel shader isn't the only difference between the 1800 and 1900, the 1800 also has slower core and RAM speeds, and has less memory in the variant you've picked out.

yeah, well i dono.. the 1800 should max games out for a while right...

no pun intended, but i want myne to look like the 360 or somthing..

i know that with the 512, i can go bigger res.. but that's about it..

the rest, i dont know.. once direct x 10 comes out, the price of the dx 9 cards will drop dramaticly.. do yall think that the 1900 will drop enough, and do you think that the 1900 and 1800 will be able to support direct X 10? :?

thanx,
btw: i am going to try and post actual specs tonight...

See the other thread - and by the way no point posting the same in two threads, there are plenty of people about in both. The 1800 and 1900 will do DX10 though. nVidia's slogan is just another ploy to draw Vista customers to them.
