I just waisted 3 discs trying to backup mercenary of justice. The first time I tried using just DVD Shrink, the second time running AnyDVD in the background and DVD Shrink again. The 3rd time using DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink. My DVD player won't recognize any of the discs I made. I didn't get any error or anything when I was burning but my DVD player just keeps saying "reading" Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Sounds like your player doesn't like them. Here's some questions to help sort this out:
°what brand and format are you using?
°does the player accept both formats (- & +)?
°burn speed?
°make and model of drive and dvd player

Hi and thanks for taking the time to respond. I think you are right. I did nothing different and now used a Sony DVD-R and the movie plays fine. I was using a Imation DVD+R burning at 8X. The Sony one I just did burned at 12X. The really strange thing is that I have used the Imation discs before and even right from the same spindle. My DVD burner is a Sony DRU 710A and my DVD player I'm not for sure but I know it's a Zenith and goes with my surround sound. Both my burner and my DVD player accepts DVD-R and DVD+R.

So crazy. Just did Today you die which is another Steven Seagal movie just like mercenary for justice. I tried first on the Imation DVD+R and it wouldn't work so I burned the same exact files to a Sony DVD-R and it works perfect. I think it's possessed or something.

Mercenary of Justice has no special encryption and also each side of the disc is less than 4.3 gigs. Using AnyDVD & CloneDVD 2, I backed up both sides with ease. No Arccoos or Ripguard on this one. Easy as pie. Literally. As a Seagal Fan, I buy all His Movies. Haven't seen one yet with problems.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Binkie may have hit on the solution to the problem in the second post. The player may not support the +R media. Can't check it out without the model number. Just having a brand doesn't help much. If not on the faceplate, it should be on a sticker in the back or in the paperwork that came with it. There's been a bunch of questions asked here and in the other thread and we only have the burner model and brands with format to go on.

Below is the post I made in the other thread. I won't post more there and it should be closed.
Quite likely the media. Imation has developed a poor rep lately for not having consistent quality. Download the free app DVD Identifier and install. Put the disc in the burner and click ID. Supply us with the info you get in the window to the left of the ID box. Supply that for the Sony as well.

What burning software was in use?
What's the burn speed you use?
Is your firmware up to date?
Do the problem burned discs play on your PC?

Hi and thanks for responding. I wanted to delete one of my posts but couldn't figure out how. Anyway, I found out my firmware was outdated so I'll update that. My DVD player is a zenith ZHD 311 home theater system. I have used both DVD-R and DVD+R on this player several times and even from the same spindle. Who knows. I guess for right now I'll try to stick with what I know for sure works...Sony DVD-R

Good course of action, sticking to what works. I still wonder who manufactured your Imation media and if it plays on the PC. Keeping the firmware up to date helps correct problems with some media. Burning at a slow speed helps with some media. No idea what you were doing there. The more info we have, the better we can evaluate the situation and make suggestions.

I'm not sure who the manufacturer is, I thought Imation was the manufacturer. How would I find that out ? To answer your other question, I tried both Imation discs in my computer and my computer doesn't recognize the disc. It actually says something like "no disc in drive" I haven't had a chance to burn a disc now that I have updated my firmware. Maybe that will help, I dunno. When I try to play these discs on my DVD player after trying to "read" it for a few minutes it says "no disc" as well. Thanks again BroBear

To get the manufacturer id on those discs download this program:
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
Like brobear said the more info we have the better.
As also stated burn speed can be a factor. What speed do you burn at and with which program(s)
Hopefully the firmware update will help your drive recognize these discs.

I see Binkie was kind enough to supply the ID software for you. Nice little app. All you do is install, open it, put a DVD in the burner and click Identify. The manufacturer info will come up in the window to the left of the Identify box. Imation and other brands don't manufacture their own media. Even top of the line brands aren't manufactured in house, or not always. Sony 8X +R for instance has been made by both Sony and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex is an example with CMC Magnetics media; a bunch of people are avoiding those. Verbatim, Fuji, the list goes on... Due to brands selling media supplied by different manufacturers, it's sometimes difficult to know if you're using the same media when buying the same brand over again. So, there's the reason for ID(ing) media, who made your media.
