Is it required that you have a mod chip in order to play burned games on the PS2? I see no point in backing up my games if I can't play them when I lose the original. Where can I get the mod chip and what do I have to do to install it on the PS2? And will it cost money and how much?

you need some kind of mod for the ps2 to play back ups - either a chip or a swap disc. people use back ups so as their originals dont get scrathed up & become unusable. there is a thread in the ps2 forums with recommended suppliers. a swap disc is easiest to use as a chip usually requires soldering into very small parts of the ps2. they can cost anything from $20-$80 USD depending on what one you opt for.
