I recently updated quicktime 6.5 to 7 but I noticed just now that nero doesn't recognize it. I can play any other format in the program except it. Also when I tried to convert a quicktime dv file to dvd it just hung on there like frozen which makes me think it obviously doesn't recognize it for some reason. Any ideas on what to do? Is quicktime possibly installed improperly or something? I did get a message from another program I have called winaviconverter that said it doesn't recognize the quicktime codec so this makes me think something is wrong with quicktime here. It seems to work fine otherwise.

Is it ok to uninstall quicktime completely? When I updated it a few days back I just installed it over the old version, I was going to actually remove 6.5 and install 7 but it gave me a warning in the program menu about how it can interfere with programs which made me kind of leery to do it. Any ideas what to do?

thanks a lot

Not sure what version of QuickTime you're using. I for one pretty much hate Quicktime for a lot of reasons (file size/quality ration being ne reason) but generally depending on your needs the quality is better than most. That said I prefer AVI and DivX hands down to all other formats because of their quality an Versatility!

If you have Quick Time Pro.... I discovered this quite by accident, Open and play your .mov and sinply go to file >> Save as >> and save it as an AVI. I've done this quite a bit with .mov files and now have great quality DivX versions of some movies at a fraction of the filesize.

Hope this helps. BTW - not sure if you're using Nero 6 or 7 but I'd recommend steering well clear of Nero 7 or spending a red cent on anything they might have to offer. If you have bought 6 previously stick with it and the upgrades and draw the line right there!

Hope this helps

thanks for the ideas, I'm using the latest "demo" 7.0. whatever version of Nero and haven't really had any problems with it up until this point. The reason I use quicktime is because I have to show a lot of work on macs so that's basically it. I don't think it's a Nero problem though, quicktime seems installed ok but the codec isn't working right for some reason. Any more ideas would be appreciated if anyone can help me out.

Wish I could help out some more but the truth is I am faced with a pretty serious codec problem myself - I'm pretty sure it is Cyberlinks' power producer that is causing the problem. In my case it's another one of those 30 day trial plug-in codecs this one for AC3. I suddenly lost all system sound - checked my direct X audio settings and tried to google the fault (not surprisingly no helpful info). No clue how to clean up the codecs as they seem to install all over the place and in a lot of cases as share .dll's

Even installing latest codec packs doesn't bring the sound babk - only system restore. I think this is the new plague.

As for your problem I guess you gotta ask yourself is the ?20 to upgrade to pro worth the money? most likely yes if you're outputting a lot to mac end users. I would go so far as to upload DivX and pt a little DivX icon on the web page with a link to DivX bundle download. This technology not only rocks.... it rolls too! best of all the play bundle is free ad doesn't expire for 6 months. I love DivX that much I bought the create package (automatically downloads the latest codecs too). I'm 110 % satisfied with DivX and I'm - 110% or less satisfied with Nero.

You could equally go to all the hassle of uninstalling Nero and possibly one or two other media players and reinstalling them from the ground up to see if that'll resolve the problem.

For the record I have Nero 6/Alcohol 120%/ Cyberlink Power Producer3/Power Director 5/DVDLabPro1.0/TempGNK 3.0/Im Too CD and DVD rippers/DivX Create Bundle/ The Abysmal Windows Movie Maker/Real Producer Plus/and QT 7.0.4 Pro all installed on my machine. Not to mention Real player 10 Gold, Win Amp and a host of other Music ripping/authoring and playback software. Nothing short of a freaking nightmare to keep track of all the plug-ins, codec locations etc....

I used to use .mov to embed into flash movies - but have grown completely sick of flash and even now when I click a link to a website authored in Flash I immediately navigate away from it. Simply have not the time or the patience to wait for someones ego-trip to download. That for me is a badly scripted flash side and demonstrates perfectly how flash should not be used in the Web Design/Development process. Flash should be instantaneous and serve as an illustration tool and no more than that. Plus it should natively not only resise the container but also the embedded object to fit the object browser resolution (Without additional coding)- I digress. But hopefully once again there might be something of use in all this lot for you to pick up on.

Cheers!
