i am trying to join 26 episodes from a tv show and each time i try to i get a error message that says can't join files: video compression formats differ:xvid<->divx. What should i do? Help would be greatly appreciated

Which program did you use?
I think your tv show is xvid format, but when you join the episodes, it becomes divx formats.
So try to download divx and xvid codec:

http://www.divx.com/divx/play/download/
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
