DVD Decrypter is free and works great, if you can get a link to it. A lot of places no longer have it but i know some still will.
It can copy all PS2 DVD based games

Nero or Alcohol 120% (not free) can do CD games.

If you want to know how to back up games it depends on how your PS2 is modified to play the back up copy you make. I hope you know it will not play on a stock PS2.

READ THE STICKY AT THE TOP ABOUT HOW TO BACK UP GAMES.

Get DVD Decrypter. This will allow you to burn backups.
The simple steps are: Make a folder and save it somewhere....on your desktop perhaphs, name it Game copy or something you will remember then Put your source ( origional ) disc in your drive wait 10 seconds then open DVD Decrypter > on the taskbar go to Mode > iso READ > under "source " make sure the game is shown and click on "destination" and you want the folder you named earlier to show here....so you will have to "browse" for it. Then click on the picture of the disc (dvd). That will start the reading.
When that is done (around 10 mins) you will put in your "destination" disc (blank) and go to the taskbar again and click on "mode" and iso WRITE. Select the file from "source" and make sure you select the MDS file, then in the "destination" box make sure it shows your burner.
Set the write speed to 1x or 2x and that is it. Use good quality media to write to or games wont copy and you will get "skipping"
(games will stick) turn off screensavers and running programs while burning as they can cause conflicts and make the games jump during play. DVD Decrypter will use Nero to burn so these are the easiest to use. You could also try Gamejack or Alcohol 120% but I thing the method above is good for first timers. Good luck...I'll check this post in a day or 2 ....so if you have any questions....

I've tryed using DVD Decryper, and DVD shrink even, but nothing has else has worked, I am currently trying to burn a game called Worms 3D, tryed using, Alcohole 120%, Nero Startsmart, DVD Decrypter, but it just will not work, I've got a MOD CHIP in my PS2 as well...

DVD Decrypter is GREAT at burning ps2 games,

On GOOD media 1/2 the maximum speed is good.
Some burners like Benq (for example) burn GREAT at 8x speed,
I would start at 1/2 the maximum speed or no more than 4x.
Once you find the 'sweet spot' for your burner and media,
Then stick with it.

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Welcome to the forums.
*EDIT*--
The stcky are found at the top of each individual forum,
And they are seperate and related to each different forum.
Look at the top BOLD links BELOW they are the 'sticky's'.

The only thing I can think of that is the reson why it's not working, is because i'm using the wronge DVD...

waterwave stick with either DVD-R or DVD+R. Write at 4x as mentioned earlier usind DVD Decrypter or Nero, in my experience, DVD Decryptor works the best.

hello PS2Crazy0

you havent said what mod device you have yet...

unless you want to break your ps2,dont use DVD-RW disks

you only need 1 drive,(as long as it reads/writes dvd's)

use imageburn if you cant find decrypter

cheers!!!

intel P4 660,2048mb ram,2 X 400gb sata HDD,2 x pioneer cd/dvd combo drives...

i did not give any links. Any word like Alcohol 120% or other that is in the glossary of terms or download section here will show up blue like a link and usually link you to a page here.

A sticky is a thread at the top that is made to always stay there at the top so people can always see them.

you do not need 2 drives, just one DVD burner.
here is a good tutorial for using DVD Decrypter
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html
you can get it here i think
http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=downloads

Best Disc are.
Verbatim
Taiyo Yuden (watch out for fakes)
Sony or Maxcell (made in Japan only!)

i suggest you start with a 8X DVD-R, they will be the most compatible.

svtstang, what works best for you.....DVD+R or DVD-R?

And does it matter what brand? I don't think it would, but maybe some brands are cheaper than others for a reason.

Everybody says DVD Decrypter is the BEST, but i have found it to be hopeless, the only prgrames that i've fount to work are Alcohole 120% and Nero. I'll try and use DVD decypterand find out how it works.

I have got some instructions printed out, but I do not understand exactly what that person is trying to tell me to do...

Do DVD-or+rw stuff up ur PS2?

anyway, I'll give it another go.....

waterwave, in my experience DVD-R works the best, and yes, the brand of the dvd makes a diffence. To see y, just use Nero's cd-dvd speed tool and it will show the the diferences between different disks. As mentioned above, verbatum and taiyo yueden are the best (i use tyg03's at 4x speed). Alright, last try with DVD Decryptor:

1. Insert a copy of agame U OWN and want to back up
2. Go to mode, choose iso->read. Next go the destination, click on the litle folder and SAVE THE IMAGE TO YOUR DESKTOP
3. When done, replace the original disk with your blank media(tygo3 i hope), go back to mode, choose iso->write. You should have 2 files on ur desktop, a .iso and .mds (can be .mdf). Choose the .mds/f file as it directs dvd decryptor on how to put the image on the disk as efficiently as possbile. Dont worry that the .mds is VERY small, dvd decryptor will stil burn the image.
4. MAKE SURE the write speed is no higher than 4x and no other programs are going on in the background.
5. Start the process, wait 10-15 mintues, and ur done.

Hope this helps

Are "imation" and "mag media" good brands?

Because I just bought LOTS of DVD+R DVD-R DVD+RW DVD-RW all in those brands...

Ive never heard of mag media. I would stick with well known media. Those disks are probably lower quality, and the result will be excess strain on ur ps2 laser and inconsistent quality burning. Use this link if you want high quality media at an EXTREMELY low price.

http://www.supermediastore.com/

U can find taiyo yuden here at the best price possible. I definetely recommend these if u are backing up DVDs.

Stick with +r or -r, these are the most compatible with the ps2

I understand that +r -r and the best for u ps2, but if you for some reason it dosen't work, if you've used a rw then u haven't lost a disc, but i understand...
