ok, I have a brand new DS Lite. I need to know what is homebrew exactly, how can i get the best out of my DS Lite experience, and is their anything cool being released for it soon. Also, what is the passkey, what does it do, what is flashing the DS, do I need to?, what is this I hear about all of these movie players (super card, M3, gba movie player, etc.), Im quite interested in it, however I cant afford the $70-$80 M3. Which is better the supercard, GBA Movie Player, Play-yan, or what ever else thats out there. Whats a flash cart.
Im sorry, u might think, this kid is so dumb!, but I am very new @ this and need assistance (as u can see) so plz. help me :) THNX EVERYONE!

Homebrew is unsigned code/program (not made by nintendo or any other games company) that can be run on DS's. i.e. emulators and games

You can get the best out of your DS Lite experience by playing both games and homebrew :P

"Is there anything cool being released for it soon" homebrew-wise, theres DoomDS http://dual-soft.com/doomds/

If you can't afford the M3 your next best bet is the supercard (though i don't like 'em) The GBA Movie Player is ok for some homebrew, but in my opinion is starting to fall behind now due to it's lack of features compared to the M3 and SuperCard. (I have both an M3 and GBA Movie Player, the GBA Movie Player never gets used now)

A flash cart is a GBA sized cartridge with flash memory, though to get the best out of a flash cart you need a high capacity one. Which, as you can't afford the M3, will be well out of your price range.

The passkey is a device which plugs in btween the DS and a DS game and allows homebrew to be run in "DS mode" this is essential for the running of most DS Homewbrew, and also running ROM's of DS games.

Flashing the DS removes the need to use the passkey. And also gets rid of those pesky Health and Saftey screens, however I believe it also currently stops you from being able to change the brightness settings of a DS Lite.

Still not 100% sure what your asking as how you just put that could be read in two different ways...or it might just be because it's the middle of the night where I am and i'm tired ¬_¬

when you "flash" a ds, do you only need to do it once? just flash the ds, pop in the gba flash cart and ds roms are ready to go?

Flashing the DS only needs to be done once, only if there are any major updates to FlashMe would you want/need to do it again.

thanks 4 anwsering that question but, If u only have to flash it once and then you dont need a passkey or anything then why do people use the passkey.

How is the M3 better than a Supercard?

The biggest thing making the M3 superior to the Supercard is the fact that supercard often has problems with slowdowns in GBA games, which the M3 does not.

That link has a good (though slightly outdated) comparison of the SD versions of the M3 and Supercard, use this to make your own opinions as to what is better, I personally feel the M3 is better (especially build quality and components) however other peoples opinions will no doubt be different.

I have owned a Supercard in the past, I soon replaced it with my current M3 and gave the Supercard to my destructive younger brother as i didn't even feel it was worth selling.

As for need of the passkey, without it, you can't use flashme to flash your DS in the first place. Only after the DS has been flashed will you not need the passkey.
