I have some xvid files that show streaks of color in them when viewing and read that they were encoded with gmc enabled. I no longer have the original DVD.

My question is can I re-encode them (seeing as they are already an avi), and if so, what is the best program to use to do it. I've only ever backed up using I'MToo DVd Ripper and it doesn't appear to be able.

TIA

Today is the greatest day I've ever known....

You can do whatever you want.

Easiest is probably just to open with VirtualDubMod, then configure either XviD or DivX with a HT profile and the original video bitrate (assuming you want the same size). The audio will be set to direct streaming by default, although you might want to disable it for the first pass.

Then again something like AutoGK or AVIRecomp might be easier.

Streaks of colour is generally due to CQM's not GMC. GMC will generally cause the player to freeze everytime it encounters an S-VOP. Talking standalone playback here.
