Hi, I am new to the forum and really hope that someone can help me somehow...

I recently port forwarded my router so that my bitTorrent was not NATed. I already had a static IP and I used the following website for intsructions http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/Voy...

I set the port to 10000. My bitTorrent works fine but Firefox and MSN Messenger have connectivity problems. Sometimes they work fine when bitTorrent is running but eventually they have connection problems.

I know that sometimes bitTorrent can cause a connection to be lost if the download is very fast and that as yet there are no solutions to this but for me the connection problems are happening at slow download speeds. When I close bitTorrent the other two seem to work okay.

Do i need to adjust the settings of Firefox and MSN since I port forwarded my router or is this a problem with bitTorrent? It seems to me that this can't be the case as the progrmas work when bitTorrent isn't running!

I am using Windows XP. Anyone else have this problem or know what I can do to fix it?

a quick googling tells me that port 10000 is used by windows as its Network Data Management Protocol.

First, try changing the port. Then go from there.

Actually I still seem to have a problem with this.

The NAT rule I have is written below. I have looked on some other websites. Can you see anything that should be different?

Sorry I meant to ask. Should the rule ID be 60000? Do I need to set up more rules for my other programs? As i Said they seem to work fine when bitTorrent is not running and i'm pretty sure it's not due to the bandwidth being taken up...

In a desparate attempt to fix things I have forwarded ports 1863 & 6891-6901 for MSN Messenger and port 3689 for iTunes. I don't know if it will make any difference but what I really want to know is:

Will forwarding these ports specifying my static IP address affect in any way the homework and my Dad's connection?!
