Any advise on what is the best software for ripping DVDs or any type of videos to the hard drive for playback or editing?

Beside the DVD Fab Decrypter, DVD to iPod Ripper is also good.
It can rip DVD files into hard driver. Moreover you can convert it to MP4 formats whick has high compress ratio and good quality.
