I am new here but you guys seem to be pretty sharp on this stuff so here's what I need to know.
Can you transfer all the backed up games from one hard drive to another? If so what is required to make it happen? and how time/labor intensive is it?

I need to move roughly 150 GB from one to another so thanks in advance for any and all the help you guys are willing to share with me.

With a USB hard disk drive it would be easy to move the files,
But before doing so you must ask yourself this question.

What are you planning to do with the files?
Are you intending to back them up on a HDD then play them
on the ps2?
(I say ps2 because you posted this in the ps2 forums.)
If not you could burn each one to dvd media and play the games
Via swapmagic disks and flip-top kit.
( Boot-discs:- http://www.smapmagic3.com kit:- Http://www.clearxbox.com. )

Either way your ps2 is going to have to be modified to play
copied games regardless of whether they are on HDD or burnt to
dvd media.

I burn all my PS2 GAME copies to dvd+r (booktyped to dvd-rom).
Then I load them using swapmagic disks and my fliptop kit.
The compatibilty is better to burn them on good dvd media,
versus ripping them and booting them off an internal HDD
inside the ps2.

I have two Identical PS2s and two Identical 160 GB western digital HDDs I had loaded all my games on both and that gave me one for me and the other for the kids to play. They managed to erase every single game on theirs, It says "No files converted" after booting with the HD advance disk. I want to completely copy one HDD to the other. You said the PS2 would have to be modified,WHY? if the HD advance disk runs and boots why would it not play the copied files from the internal HDD? either way looking for some answers thanks for the previous advice.

You dont need a MOD with the HDD, but not all games are compatible,
Also not all HDD are compatible as well.
This FAQ here should answer you questions.
http://hddfaq.ps2nfo.com/
Also here is a compatibility FAQ
http://ps2hdd.ps2nfo.com/
I always burn my copies to DVD+R so I dont have any issues.
But most games should run off the HDD but Im not sure if it will work
on such a large drive (160 gb).

Cheers!

Perhaps I wasnt clear enough...... I know what the hdadvance is, I know how it works,I know that the games I had on it worked and played fine,I know the 160 GB drive works with the 2.0 version since it supports up to 200 GB, I need to know how to transfer all working games on one 160 GB drive to another Identical 160 GB drive if possible. can I use two PS2s connected via Cat5 cable or possibly USB connection and just copy one drive to another?

I had a friend take both drives home with him from work and he could see some files on the erased drive but couldn't seem to figure out how to copy one onto the other.
I need to completely mirror one drive with another.

The best way to do it is to hook both HD's up to a PC (or 1 at a time if you have 160GB free space on the PC's hard drive).

Next - you need this program http://winhiip.ps2hd.com/
In the program, you select the ps2 drive with the games and hit the copy button, and select the destination drive. Simple as that.

Jizmak, you really went off on one. Stick to the point next time, eh? :P

I don't follow, sorry.

If you're not afraid to open your PC and change some things around, try this -

Sorry if you already know this :)

Inside your PC, you'll see where the hd and cd/dvd drives are connected - on 2 ide cables.

The 1st cable, connected to your main hd with your OS installed (maybe a 2nd hd too). The 2nd to the CD/DVD drives(s).

Now, you need 2 spare connections for the 2 ps2 hd's (obviously!)

So, disconnect any 2 drives, except the one windows or whatever is on. No harm will be done and it's easy to put back together.

Next, look on the back of the ps2 hd's. You'll see little plastic bits attached to some pins maybe, called a jumper. http://www.binarybiz.com/hddrepair/images/fujit-jumper-settings.gif
Drives differ, but generally that's how it works.
Your hd with windows installed needs to be master. It will be already, so we can leave that. If you attach a ps2 hd on the same cable, it must be slave - e.g. take the jumper off.

Now, 1 down, 1 to go :)

The second IDE cable is the same - 1 drive must be master, 1 must be slave (we won't get into cable select for now).

So, if you have one DVD drive in there, it'll probably be set to master. Again, take the jumper off the ps2 drive and it'll be all good.

Nothing can break if you don't get it right. If the two drives are in the PC, transfer shouldn't take much more than an hour.
