There is no fastest torrent client, since speeds depend on your internet connection, the tracker/site you are using, and the number of people you're connecting to.

Btw, could you do us all a favor?
Next time you come up with a question like this, use the forum's search function as questions like this one are veeeeeeeeery common and answered at least once a month, sometimes even a few times every day....

Rawr!

First off, he's right. Read the "read this before posting" thread instead of assuming that everyone's gathered around their monitors eagerly awaiting the opportunity to answer your question.

Next, how many NEW threads have you started in the past 48 hours? It's a lot, I know, because I keep skipping them when I see you cross-posting and making new posts, 99.999% of which have been answered w/i the last week.

Now, for clarification, I'll say this part, one more time, which Fiend already said.

NO CLIENT IS FASTER THAN ANY OTHER CLIENT.
If configured correctly, EVERY client will get MAX speed for that particular torrent, EVERY time.

Azureus used to have a memory leak issue where eventually it would bloat, now it doesn't. It's the most customizable (read: tweakable), so I choose it as my personal choice.

Utorrent is GREAT for noobs, I find it seriously lacking for power users.

Bitcomet is a leech client, meaning it will connect to the same tracker multiple times from the same IP in an attempt to secure more speed (because trackers automatically moderate available bandwidth.) Many, MANY sites ban bitcomet for this reason.

Bitlord is now and has always been full of spyware and, in general, is nothing more than a bit of bloated crap. It's the only client that ever paid trackers to advertize it...now where do you think they get that money?

ABC is also very good.

The original BitTornado is also very good.

I used to use one from korea back in the day, now I forget what it was called, but it was the first to successfully implement UPnP, but then it broke.

Anyway, my 2 cents? Azureus all the way. ALL the way.

Now, I've posted that exact same info at least twice in the last 2 weeks. The search button is your friend.

PEACE.

Tom,
got a Question for you. Why exactly is utorrent "lacking"? I use it now that BC has been banned from my trackers :) and utorrent has yet to let me down. Just the other day i downloaded a 2 cd movie in 7 minutes and only connected to 70 or so seeds...

I have the same question... what is it lacking? I thought it was lacking at first because I missed the option of picking what IP's connect to me but I talked to the designer and they go about it a different way but other than that it's pretty damn complete for such a small client. And you can kick/ban IP's if you know how to do it.

Actually, I had a problem w/ it staying memory-resident, I don't like it when programs do that.

Sure, the actual .exe is very small, but it's somewhat of an installer. The program itself likes to stay memory resident, which I don't like nor trust.

What is it missing?

Plug in support. Some of the azureus plugins seem silly, but some are luxurious enough that you stop wanting to go w/o them.

A really good wiki/non-faq.

And, it tries to do too much automatically for my taste. I don't like that, but then, I like to go over every new app w/ a fine toothed comb and tweak it to be exactly what I want it to be. Azureus fits that need for me, utorrent not so much.

Now, what else is it missing? No, I won't tell you the dynamics of tracker cheating, but let's just say that it's significanly more easy to spoof a fake utorrent connection than an azureus connection, because of that "different way of going about connecting" that it uses...that you were talking about.

So...again, Azureus > all, imo.

Oh, and about download speed, for the 525,600th time in as many minutes (zomg 1 year), if you configure your client correctly, all of 'em will go as fast as any other. I was sucking stuff down from filelist at 420Kbps w/ Azureus and 420Kbps w/ utorrent, same torrent, w/i 10 minutes of each other.

Plug-ins are not all their cracked to be... I never found any in AZ that I couldn't live without. With the forum the developers run they don't need a wiki since anyone can join and ask questions. And I wasn't talking about the way it connects but the way it lets you block IP's. It's no different than the IP filter AZ has. Just done differently.

uTorrent has done an excellent job for me. I don't need to sit and micro-manage a client that should run smoother than it does so hands down uTorrent lets me do more with my system than the memory hog AZ. To each his own!

Well, see, hrm..I'll reply.

The feller asked what client everyone likes best...I never bashed utorrent, I said I preferred Azureus.

You, and everyone else, seems to constantly reply that a specific client downloads faster than another specific client...which it doesn't. If you got one to go faster than another, congrats, you got one set up right. I'm not trying to be high and mighty...you have a stickied guide, you should, imo, know better than to confuse noobs into thinking that one client is inherently faster than another.

I have a guide too, when it finally fell off the tracker, it had just over 1.2 million downloads, I'm ol' skool buddy, Lokitorrent VIP in tha hizouse, lol. Much has changed since then.

And, plug ins are hot. I like getting a SMS message when a torrent is finished. I LIKE, for the purposes of sharing, my upstream to be constantly maximized via the upstream analyzer plugin. I've never had a problem w/ Azureus being a "memory hog", they fixed the memory leak ages ago. Besides, I like it when I close a program and it...you know...closes. Beyond that, UPnP is a great technology for noobs, and uTorrent definately has not refined that part of their application so far. I don't use it, but if it's a checkbox, it should work.

And...out of order, what you see as "micro managing", I see as "fine tuning." If you're content to assume that you're getting your max d/l, most minimal latency, and best share, w/o being able to look @ the guts of the operation, that's great. I'm not, I like to tweak, poke, and prod. Open source > all.

And, lastly, I am talking about the way it connects. Check it out, I'm not lying. When people spoof, they spoof uTorrent, because it's sloppy. Not saying it's not a good program, I even often recommend it. I definately DO think Azureus is better, but since the tide of this conversation is personal preference, I'll continue to have my opinion, you continue to have yours.
