Now i can no longer find 4x dvd+r, only 1-8X, 12x, and 16x dvd+rs, and they dont work. if anyone has any info or advice please help me. i dont know that much technical stuff, so please try to keep it simple. in my experience ps2's do not like DVD+R, can you burn DVD-R if you can try that. also make sure you use quality media like taiyo yuden, verbatim, sony (made in japan), or equivelent.
if unable to burn in DVD-R try booktyping your DVD+R discs, this makes them more readable, i dont have a link to the guide on how to do this but if you need it let me know & i will try & find it for you :-)

Yes, if you can find that link that would be helpfull, i use DVD+R because i have a dvd+r/rw burner, i was told i could only use DVD+R disks, is this wrong?

i also have not had a lot of luck with the DVD+R
You should see if your burner can booktype them like stated above, if so you can make them burn as a DVD-Rom, which is the format that an original PS2 DVD is in. Making it much more compatible.
Then you may get one to work. And i would surely stick with the 8X speed as many people have had problmes with the 16X DVD's
just search "booktype" or "booktyping" and i am sure you will come up with some posts that give instructions.

Burning media at slow speeds does NOT ensure better quality, in fact in many cases the quality will be worse, sometimes much worse. With modern burners, most media will burn it's best at its rated speed, although 16x media usually burns best at 12x or sometimes 8x. Verbatim 16x, at least MCC04 anyway, is one exception that usually burns well at slower speeds, but burning almost any 8x media below 4x or 16x media below 8x will result in worse burn quality. It will vary depending on every possible combination of media, burner, and firmware, but if you have a decent, relatively new burner, your best bet is to burn 1-8x rated media at it's rated speed, and 16x media at 12x.
