Anyone who uses p2p, online gaming, or just uses a lot of bandwidth and is thinking of changing their broadband supplier would do well to look at this:
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/caps.htm
Some of those advertising "unlimited" broadband are liars.
Also a lot use traffic shaping, and even if you use header encryption, you still can't download anything because the bastards have a "fair usage policy" which throttles your internet connection if you dare to use as little as under 30 Gig a month.
If you are unlucky, by the time you have found this out you will have been tied in to a 12 month contract (or more).
These dodgy isp's need boycotting- unlimited should mean UNLIMITED.

I feel sick I'm just waiting for my Tiscali package to arrive.

Although wonder if disabling DHT and forcing protocol encryption does the job with a random port number.

Aslong as they stick to there word and off peak is what they say it is I won't have any major problems, as off peaks normally my kind of hours anyways.

I was with tiscali until i got fed up with poor download speeds and switched to talktalk.
To be fair tiscali are better than talktalk, but that is not hard- they're both shit.
You might be ok off peak, but if it's not set up yet you could still cancel if you wanted to.

I'd agree with the above. Steer clear of Talk-Talk if you want torrents. With encryption I've been getting some speed but nothing like it should be.

I'm on tiscali, i have no problems with slow speeds. And my D/L is definetly unlimited and i download at least 40-50G a month.

They are pretty good for me, just when you have a problem and you phone c/s don't let them feed you bullshit, i actually say to them "Now you know thats not the problem, dont you think i have tried that already now come on do your job properly instead of trying to get the extra £5 out of this phone call by feeding me crap advice"

Mik3h Does Virgin throttle your bandwidth after 20GB because my Mums on plan 3 512kbs download with 2GB monthly.

Yet I always get 60kbs no matter how much I'v downloaded, this month and last month I'v probably downloaded 120GB+ and they havn't charged any extra or started throttling the bandwidth.

Nope, they don't throttle it at all, usually on TorrentLeech straight 250kb/s all the way :D

Paul, they send warning emails to the account holder's inbox reminding you of the limit. They are supposed to send 2 letters, then after that they begin to limit your speed, or in more severe cases, terminate your connection with them.

Its a sad state of affairs that all these 'terrific' broadband suppliers aren't so great after all.

Just finished a 9 hour night shift only to have to stay awake because either BT or Tiscali havn't done there job right.

In 2 hours I'v been back and forth ringing Tiscali and BT (3 times each) both blaming each other why my order has been refused only to come to the end conclusion there both pants and basically Tiscali have got to start all over again with processing my order and say allow ten to fifteen working days for delivery while I'v already waited ten days.

GRRR!

And they blame computer games as the source of all violence! lol

My homeline on NTL used to be a 75gb cap but they upped it to unlimited (they never actually capped me ever done over 300gbs some months )

Never had traffic shaping either so im one of the lucky ones :)
