I am having a problem after burning a movie on Dvd. The burning process goes fine. The problem is when watching the movie there are 1 second pauses every ten minutes. What is the cause of this? The Dvd media I was using was Memorex. I switched media to Panasonic Dvd-r's, I still get the pauses and the movie stops playing half way through for no apparent reason. The dvd burner I am using is Matashita by Panasonic. I am burning at 4X the speed. Recommended speed for quality burning. If this helps I convert them with WinAvi. Anyone ever ran into this issue and solved it?

xamot,

There are a lot of possible causes for this so bear with me and try to eliminate all the possibilities.

Make sure your version of Nero is upto date if using Nero tp burn with, update it if not, it's free using the Nero site.

Make sure your player will recognize and play the media you're putting in it by reading the manual, find out what formats it can play (DVD-R, DVD+Rs or +/-RWs) and only burn to disks using that format.

When having Nero or decrypter (what ever app you use) to burn to disk, don't burn too fast. Try and burn your backups to disk at no faster than 1/2 the rated speed of the disk, and do so on media that's considered to be good quality (look for made in japan on the packaging when buying it), try switching to verbatim disks as suggested above.

Cut down on your file sizes so as not to burn too close to the disk's outer edge, trim the size down to 4300MB. If using DVDshrink to create the files, run shrink and goto:edit-->preferences, in the preferences tab choose custom from the dropdown menu and enter a value of 4300.

Note:You can also do this when using Nero recode, you'll see the dropdown menu in the lower right side of the window.

When playing the disks, make sure you don't have any sticky labels on them, this can throw off their balance when being played.

If you have a older player and are having playback problems, you could buy a new one (they're pretty cheap) which will play all formats, or you could try booktyping DVD+R disks as DVD-ROMs, but your burner must support this feature so check with manufacturers website. I do this all the time to make sure the DVDs play well in all players, but my burner supports this feature.

Here's some info on the proceedure if interested,
http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

One last thing, make sure your burner's firmware is upto date. If you know what version is currently installed (you can use the Nero info tool to find out if you don't, just run the tool form the tool kit then click on the drive tab and look for firmware version), you can go here and get the update if you need one.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

Just enter the model# of the burner in the search field and click search. Find the update and click on it to download it, just run the file and follow any instructions when installing.

Note: you can also use DVD Decrypter to search for you by going to tools--drive--search for firmware updates

Cheers.

I had this problem before with the seconds pause or jump to next chapter in my 2 DVD players. I increased memory but wasn't it. i bought others DVD disks minus and plus, but the problem persisted. So I replaced my DVD RW driver with other brand, and now I don't have any of this problem. I'm using any kind of DVD disk and I'm happy with the results: Like the original. By the way, the DVD RW Driver I'm using now is Pionner DVD-100 16x

What drive is showing those issues? A stand alone player/s or your matashita drive?

Verify them on the matashita drive.View them on your pc,using the burner that produced those backup/s to play them.

Verify on other stand alone/s and see how they react to them. The more drives, the better idea you'll get if it's drive related or something else.

Like johnl123 posted, there are many possibilities for that issue. Here's the order of most likely to least likely:

1) Media quality-get the good stuff.
2) Burn speed- poor quality media -aka memosux and I'm unclear of Panasonic's quality of manufacturers. Poor media=slow burn/quality media=faster burn.
3) Paper/sticker labels-major no-no if issues arrise.
4) Multi-tasking-some dvd programs will max out your processor.
5) Software issues-maybe the program/s you used to transfer the avi's or could be the burn program.
6)Fragmented Harddrive/s
7) Dirty laser lens on the drive/s that show these issues after ruling out the above-it's a last resort before replacement.
8) Burner quality: Firmware may need updated to the most recent update.Plus, there's some crappy drives out there.
9) Stand alone player wear and tear.
10) Slight chance spyware/malware is giving issues.
11) The list goes on!

Lots of possibilities, and lots of troubleshooting.

Verbatim is top notch media but you won't find any in the states with made in japan on the wrapper. It's made in taiwan (or singapore for their DL media). Verbatim is an exception to the only buy media made in japan rule.

I am using WinAvi to convert the media files. I realized that once it is converted I ran into a problem, the problem is the audio was not keeping up with the movie. I know for sure WinAvi is not converting the files right. Is there a way to troubleshoot this?

I don't mess with AVI's primarily due to the same problem you're having. Some would play back in perfect sync and some wouldn't no matter what I did or tryed.
