Hi I just recently got my new dvd-rw drive cause my other one was decreasing its speed and it was under warranty so got it free and the last one wasnt even 3 months old when it started decreasing it speed at the highest setting of burning. Now it burns everything like it was new again. And my ? is do the ripping programs as in dvd shrink, dvd fab and etc. Do they wear down the dvd drive extremely faster then they w/o using th program cause i just rip a dvd and for some weird reason when i played the real dvd from the drive it was acting like the old dvd-rw drive it would skip each other frame of a dvd movie but then started different program work fine again. just kind of concord

your programs shouldn't affect your drive unless it slips it from DMA to PIO mode! here is how to tell if your in PIO mode and how to put it back to DMA mode: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

if your drive is not in DMA mode it will run much slower. And windows would do this not the programs! DVDDecrypter wouldn't do that cause it never did that to me!!! and I use it very often! Neither would DVDFab, Shrink, AnyDVD........ what other programs do you use?
