i own a dvd writer but do not know the name of it (not listed on drive face)...i was wondering if there is a programme that identifies dvd writers...i would rather not open the case and look inside...the drive is identified as a GENERIC DVDRW (rev. 1101)

The best way is to verify the drive's ID String. I recommend using DVDInfoPro....
