I have been using Azereus and BitTorrent for quite awhile now, but recently I began having problems with it. I can start downloading/seeding fine, but then after a seemingly random amount of time(usually when I'm not using the computer) the torrents stop and I lose the internet connection completely on my computer. After I reboot my computer, the internet and my torrents work fine once again. I'm on a home network and none of the other computers on the network lose connection when this happens. I have looked all over and have found several situations similar to mine, but they involve the entire network losing connection. Also I should add that not only is it the internet, but I cannot access my router after the connection is lost. If you need any more information I would be happy to provide it, and thanks a lot for your help.

I have the exact same problem. The past year has been fine, but all of a sudden this started happening. I was first using uTorrent. My connection will be going fine, and then I see the down/upload speeds slowly decreasing to nothing, and then my connection to everything goes out. I then switched to Azureus. The same thing started to happen at a random time like always, except after the speeds decreased to nothing, a popup came up and my connection came back.
The popup that came up with Azureus said something about some kind of socket error, and that it was switching to some kind of safe mode. Once Azureus switched to safe mode, I instantly came back online. I thought that it was something wrong with uTorrent, except now it just started to happen again on Azureus.
This only happens with bittorrent. If I'm just browsing the web, using e-mule, or doin something else it doesn't do this. Even though I knew it was bittorrent, I contacted my ISP(SBC Yahoo! DSL). They had me adjust my connection type from "smart keep alive" to "always attempt to connect," and switch my connection from using a public IP to use a private IP. This, however, still didn't fix my problem.
If I can remember right, this didn't start happening until I switched to WinXP x64. What ISP and OS do you guys have?

Okay, I think I found a fix. Our connections keep going out because there are too many connections going on. This is happening to a lot of other people who have old or cheap NICs, or are using onboard ethernet on newer motherboards.
First, update your router and network card. I'm using onboard Marvell on my MSI K8N nForce4 SLI motherboard, but the driver that Windows installs for it isn't the latest, so double check that.
If you don't know your actual upload speed, go to
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ or
http://www.dslreports.com/stest to find out.
Now go here and enter it in
http://infinite-source.de/az/az-calc.html
Input the settings that it recommends and problem solved!

I don' know if this helps but I have noticed that certain times of the day like after 12am my browser loads extremely slow and my bit torrents downloads are also lower like in the low 30kb/s range. Also I notice that my browser doesn't slow significantly during the day unless I am downloading and seeding at the same time.

i am having the same freakin problem. it doesnt matter what time of day it is, it seems that if the computer that i'm not on for a while, THAT computer will lose its connection and restarting it brings it back up. but if i'm constantly surfing the web with that computer (having web activity not jus leeching/seeding) i never lose connection.
i have the latest firmware for my router, and i've tested my connections and have set the proper limits to my Azureus. but no matter what i do, if the computer has no activity for a while i lose internet connection completely and restarting usually brings back the connection, but i cant just leech/seed when i'm at work or overnight. i have a very up-to-date router and modem, and both of my systems are no where near outdated, some help please~!!!!

Yeah the exact same thing is happening to me as well!!!! The only way I can get utorrent and my internet connection back is to restart the computer. Never know when it will happen or if it will happen or why it happens.....very frustrating indeed!!! Looks like an ongoing problem with so far no fix!!!

I've made a couple posts on this in the past.
It is indeed a crash related to too many connections. Often it's actually a ROUTER problem, but sometimes it's a local issue.
Try limiting your connections to ~100 and see if that solves the problem, also use something other than the winblows firewall...and if on SP2, you need the lvllord patch.

i completely agree it is a router problem. i recently got an imac (love macs, you jus gotta) and of course i'm still running three other PCs on my network, the problem is that the macs arent very compatable with linksys routers no with many other pc routers so i managed to swindle my way into getting an airport express (mac and PC compatible), not only waz it way easier to set up, its way more portable, and the biggest thing is that it completely fixed the connection problem.
i now have 5 computers connecting wirelessly (WEP encrypted of course) 3 pcs and 2 macs, and all machines have thier own IPs forwarded for maximum torrent performance and the connection problem is no longer an issue. i get green smilelys for all my downloads and could leave it downloading/uploading for weeks at a time.
i guess what i'm saying is... you never know how bad your router may be until you try a different router.
