I'm curious regarding something I've encountered in Nero 7. When I go into the bitsetting options from CD-DVD Speed, the +DL options are always grayed-out; even when there's a +DL disc in the drive (although that probably doesn't make any difference, as the +R/+RW options are always available whether a disc is in or not). The +R DL bitsetting seems to be permanently set to DVD-ROM, whereas with +R/+RW I have the ability to go between DVD-ROM or the actualy bitsetting of the disc.

My drive is the Lite-On SHM-165H6S with the latest (HS07) firmware, so I'm pretty sure it's capable of booktyping all three types of +R disc, and the Lite-On booktype utility does seem to allow me to change the +DL setting. Is this normal behaviour for Nero?

This screenshot is from when a +DL disc was in the drive, just so you can see what I mean if my explanation is lacking:

I just checked mine and the setting is not greyed out. My Book Type says DVD-ROM and the new setting says DVD +R DL or DVD-ROM. Also in my status window, I have a statement about "Default settings remaining: 499", which you don't have. I am running version 4.11 of that utility.

Do you know if your drive is set for book setting the DL stuff, or do you have an extra utility to set it later? My NEC needed an altered firmware for bit setting. If you did set your drive for bit setting, did you do it before or after you installed Nero 7? You might also use the info tool to see if your drive shows capable of writing to DVD +R DL

I guess a question I might ask would be, why do you want to change it to DVD +R DL?

Oh, and one more thing. If you have the DVD +RW set to DVD-ROM, I think that removes the re-writable feature. I keep mine set to DVD +RW, but my +Rs are set to DVD-ROM

The drive is the Lite-On SHM-165H6S (which is a DL capable drive), so I have the Lite-On Booktype Utility on my computer as well; and that utility seems to allow me to change the booktype for +R DL media. Can a drive be capable of booktyping +R and +RW but not +R DL? I thought that drives which could booktype could always do all three types.

It's more that Nero greying-out the choice makes me think there might be something wrong with either it or the drive.

That setting is just there by default, I guess. I never burn +RW discs, so it doesn't matter anyway. I use DVD-RAM when I want a re-writtable DVD.

I don't know an answer for sure, but videohelp says the drive does bitsetting. Perhaps it is set to DVD-ROM and you just don't have the option to change it back. I would guess it was how the firmware was written. If you have the other utility running, you might shut that down and see if it makes any difference. Or if you can, change it back- of course Nero might not recognize it right away.

Have you tried the booktype settings in Imgburn? The drive may not be able to booktype DL media, but I think that is highly unlikely.
