Truthls1 I can uinderstand your Paranoia.

I did a buy, burn return (bbr) on Empire Earth a year ago and kept using the serial for multiplayer. That serial has since been disconnected by sierra. Dickhead me gave my legit details when returning the software without even thinking about it. (so I will say it for you "YOU MORON" i just wasn't thinking)

I talked to the guy at the game store and he said that they send returned multiplayer games back to the factory and if the people registered them on the net and return them and keep using them they get charged for stealing AND fraud.

I have even reached the point where I am contemplating repurchasing the game and writing a letter to sierra apologising. However my reasons for purchasing were legit and I have only done it once b4. It took them a year to disconnect the serial. They obviously know how many times I have used it with the serial, and they know who I am.

Am I a small fry or will they come after me know matter what. The way I look at it is that it isn't hard to call the authority and inform them. It just seems a lot over 1 game, YET if its worse then shoplifting and they go to court of smaller cases of shoplifting then it concerns me.

BTW the BEST way to delete your HDD take it to a store with electromagnetic security and rub it on the counter. It is the most through delete possible. Forget software, there are still 1 and 0's there the FBI can find it if they want. The question is will they want to with small-time piracy such as this. what im scared is that they take my computer becuase there is EVIDENCE that I did this with Empire Earth and then they find that my os and everything else is copied. What to do.

At the time I didn't like the game so I was returning it. Then I happened to keep playing and realized the multiplayer potential. I haven't done this type of thing since, and I dont plan on doing it again. I am NOT encouraging to do this kind of activity in fact im storngly advising against it. The truth is want to correct my wrong, and not get busted in the process.

Eckostorm your methods will just not work for deleting stuff from your hard drive. Have a look here:

http://www.usenix.org/publications/library/proceedings/sec96/full_papers/gutmann/

and
here for some programs that will do it:

Done some research after having the SAME email about sharing a movie. Apparently in most countries your ISP must have more proof to give you a 'final ban'. But more interesting is that you only get an email if you share the COMPLETE MOVIE, so they won't email you for having incomplete part files or hashes. (Look at the file size in the message they send to your ISP) What you can do, is set for instance your endonkeybot to shut down when a download is complete and move the download to a map that's not shared; it won't do the file sharing any good, but it's better to save your own skin...:D If you do get an email for an incomplete file, they don't have a legal base, you could have downloaded the wrong file accidently and you couldn't check it because it's incomplete... You could avoid the whole deal by using ftp servers or hub-based filesharing programs...:D
