This started about a week ago when I installed a program. The program I honestly don't know which one did it because I installed several to try. Anyway, they are all wiped off of the hard drive and I'm still left with this problem. I have two different card readers installed on my XP. I could open windows explorer and see every card reader drive or do the same in My Computer. Everything was fine up to about a week ago. Now, I can't get any to show up and what cards I do have when I insert them doesn't show up though, the power light shows that something has been inserted. I have a four port hub USB inside my computer that is connected directly to the mother board and one of the card readers is connected through the hub. The other card reader is built in to my Thermaltake Hardcano 13. Netheir card readers work but everything else does! I even redirected the card reader to the hub directly to a usb port and no luck. I have downloaded new drivers (what were available), tried different usb slots, tried to install new hardware, I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the drivers and nothing has helped. If I plug in my Jumpdrive, it comes up as Drive (T) if, I plug one of my card readers in the same USB Port, I get nothing and that's where I'm at now. My computer isn't even a year old and it's a 3.4 GHZ with almost a Terabyte of storage. Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks and take care.
Thanks for the replies!
I did uninstall them in the device manager and it installed them when I restarted my computer. Also, on the programs, even when they were installed the card readers were gone. I did a non-destructive install of windows and now I can't see my ATA drives!!!! I went into BIO's and did the selections but, it keeps crashing the computer so I had to change the selections back. Do anyone have anymore suggestions?
Copy somewhere (better on CD or on an ATA drive) contents of your \WINDOWS\Repair directory.
Run sysbackup utility, after that run regedit and delete all entries in the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB and HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE
Well,
Many thanks to those who responded with an idea. I finally got fed up with it and I reformated my hard drive. Then did a fresh install of XP. at this point, I have everything disconnected. After I installed XP, I shut it down and then connected one of my card readers. Once I powered the computer back up, XP came up and stated it found new hardware and stated it was a card reader. I then after the install, checked in windows explorer and there was all the drives for the card reader. I had stated that the loss of the drives was when I installed some different programs but, it could've been when I was doing a lot of updating to the BIO's, Sound, and MSI's motherboard. So, I'm not quiet sure when I lost them only that it has been at least a week and then I didn't care. I had to now because I needed the card reader.
Again Thanks and take care!
