Sounds like something wrong with that plextor px 716a
Verbatim 16x media is some very good stuff. Some of these quality drives give issues if you burned those verbs too slow.
How fast do you burn those verbs using the Plextor drive?
Verbatim media was designed to perform better with a faster burn.My benqs agree to this because of all the crc errors on my 2.4x backups. If I can't re-rip a backup,it's of no use to me.
Crc errors: Majority of drives can play discs with crc errors and you might not even see any issues. Now when you re-rip one of them, you need every byte of data off that disc to place it on your harddrive. Any major error-CRC-and you'll error out. Dvd decrypter is more aggressive ripper.I've gotten it to get though some of those crc errors, but not all of them.
CRC- means there's a bad sector/s.Could be dirty disc/damaged disc/a backup disc with severe errors/and encryption related.
The laser is trying to get through it,but it keeps cycling. After so long,it'll error out with that crc error message.
On that Plextor drive:
Update to the latest firmware version,if you have an older version. This controls the writing strategy for your media.
If there's any compression, reduce the backup target. What programs are you using to rip from that HD camera, onto dvd +r?
It may be wearing out, before replacement-Try a lens cleaning disc in her. That disc is a last resort, before drive replacement. You may even try swapping it out from another of your dells to see if that dell verify that issue.
I know nothing of those HD cameras, but I have done a ton of VHS and 8mm to dvd +r.
BTW: Your sony Dru 820A is a rebadged benq 1640.Very nice drives, and probably rank, quality wise,a hair below the Plextors.
Do you booktype your backups to dvd-rom using the plus format verbs?
