By not using onboard graphics you will be freeing up some of your memory,it is always beneficial to use a seperate graghics card providing your computer has a slot for it.
Slots listed in order of quality-
1-PCI-E(16x)
2-AGP(8X)
3-AGP(4X)
4-PCI
Depending on your motherboard and budget you have a lot of choices
(with PCI being the exception)

Main System- Amd/64 3800x2 currently@ 2.5ghz. Asus A8N-E,win.xp-pro.4x1gb.Ocz platnium ddr 400,Maxtor 40gb.& 250gb.ide & 2x W.D.250 sata,Benq 1650V dvd Reader & Benq DW-1655 Writer,EVGA Geforce 7600gs,Creative Audigy-LS,Antec 750w psu. Vizio 37"hdtv monitor 1360x768@75hz.

Yes,But I'm not saying you will be able to play the most demanding games, there will be an improvement though. How much ram is in your system?

Aside from the card you should add another 256mb.of ram. 1 gig is not considered overkill anymore especially when it comes to gaming.

If your games run now they will certainly play better after you upgrade the Gpu and ram.

Processor upgrades are not always as easy as just plugging it in,depending on your motherboard an upgrade of any significance may not be possible without replacing the board also.

If you are willing to go that route you must first establish a spending limit.

I am only trying to show you the least expensive way to get more performance out of your present system.

What is the make and model of your computer?

That is a socket 478 board. There is not going to be a lot of upgrading options available that would be worth while.Unless you have the money to spend on the 775 board, processor and possably new memory you may just want to do as I suggested earlier.

Watch for sales. By the time you upgrade graphics card, processor, and RAM, it will cost more than a new computer!
Windows Vista is coming , possibly by end of the year and will require lots of upgrades. Personally, I would wait and get a Windows Vista new compute, which will have all the necessary requirements right out of the box.

You should be able to get the Vista recommended specs (not the minimum) for 1/2 that.

Any P4 from the past year or two should be OK, dual core even better; ample sized HD, 1 gig Ram. Even budget systems now come with 128 graphics.

Yes, an old Celeron won't cut it, and even a newer Celeron won't pack enough power for gaming.

That Celeron has got to be 2 or more years old and will be 3 by the time Vista comes out. That's ancient in the computer world. A new graphics card won't propel you into the next era. Todays games may play bettern but 64 bit systems and operating systems will mean bigger, better, faster games next year. Your money should be put towards the 64 bit era.
