Could you provide additional info on the brand of media being used? For example: Verbatim DVD+R or Fuji DVD-R ....
What is the name and brand of your dvd burner?
What is the current firmware being used on that drive?
To check, download Nero Info Tool from here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroInfoTool_403.zip ,then unzip it, then run the prog... Could you copy and paste the brand name and firmware being used?

what brand of media are you using ,use better media as in Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim and try slowing down your burn speed to 4x if your using poor media like memorex.
also try updating your firmware on your drive
burn with no other programs running in the background on a clean machine ,means doing a dics cleanup and defragging often(at least onace a week)

I think Dolphin is asking for the brand of media you are using. Some brands use different manufacturers and quality can vary drastically from one spindle to the next, Memorex comes to mind for some reason! Try burning quality media such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, and burn at half the media's rated speed, an 8X disc at 4X, etc.
Also try not to multi-task while encoding/burning. I disconnect from the 'net and disable all anti-virus programs, etc when backing up a movie. Defrag your HD often and make sure you are using up-to-date anti-spyware/malware programs such as Spybot S+D and ADAware.
Quick on the draw tonight, Guys! Must have posted at almost the same time!

Hi ,Back again . According to that prog the early TDK disc,s i was using were made by Ricoh and burnt ok, the later TDK disc's are made by TDK and the Phillips disc's i am currently trying are made by CMC Magnetic's corp.Hope this clarifies things ,also thinking back the problem had started around the time we swapped over to broardband from dial-up which could be the problem. CMC Mags are the worst of the worst out there for DVD backing up. Go for rich or riteck or TY's they are the ones you would get the best results with.

It's really hard to know which ones exactly. The best way is too look at the packaging before u purchase usually arounf the cylinder in small print it has it somewhere on the wraping.
Unless you buy online.

Ianmarr, If you aren't buying media online then your safest bet is to buy Verbatim. I always buy my Taiyo Yuden media online from a reputable source such as supermediastore or rima.com. Everything else is pretty much a crapshoot when buying off of store shelves. Try either of these two brands and you won't be disappointed!

Gday Ian, u sound aussie, so am i. I live in sydney and iv had similar problems like you. Now its probably media related, if so i know 2 very good places to get Taiyo Yuden DVD-R or +R in australia. These are the real deal..
If u live in Sydney, NSW - www.pcx.com.au (North Ryde)
OR
better still if u live near the city a store called "Digital City" on George St hase Authentic Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) + R DVDs.
If u live in Victoria
http://www.jpldisplays.com.au
Dosent really matter though both places deliver anywhere to Australia.
Now if its not media related it may be your burner, but id try the DVDs first
regards
Nick

Just a thought here -- If you have tried to back up a scratched disk, Windows "might" have reset your drive from DMA mode to PIO mode. Doing that will result in playback stuttering and/or warbling.
Here's a link telling how to reset it to DMA mode: http://winhlp.com/WxDMA.htm

hey there, i was actually going to suggest sydney computer markets as i live near them and i got there quite often, but if my memory serves me well they do not stock any good quality media, all they have is Princo and LASER, the 2 worst brands of DVD-Rs... however i kinda doubt its crappy media, because as you said its something that all of a sudden happened, so and i presume this isnt the first time you have used the media. It must be your burner, or the firware, i would try see if the burner is in DMA mode before you jump out and buy a new burner.
As i recently had a similar problem

You can find good media there if you are willing too really look there i know some places are really busy sometimes but u need to search intensivley. Pick up the cylinder and read the small print. It will tell you the exact manifacturer code on it in small print.
You mostly can find good Ritek media there. It normally in a white pink cylinder called Ritek Inkjet White 8x
The price for this media goes for around A$22
I hope that helps.
