I've been having all kinds of problems converting an XVid file to either m2v or mpg. I really just want to convet it so that I can burn it to DVD and keep the 16x9 aspect ratio. Right at the moment if I simply use a DVD authoring program (I've tried Roxio DVD Builder, Ulead Movie Factory 3, and Sonic DVDit!) the picture will be squeezed to 4:3.

I used TMPGEnc with 2 pass VBR, but when it came to the second pass the program would quit because of an error (something about the checksum didn't match up with the first pass). So I tried Manual VBR and it worked, except that my file went from 42min and 22sec to 2hrs 5min and 37sec. After the 42min and 22sec mark it just goes to black.

Does anyone know why TMPGEnc might be freezing up with 2 pass VBR or why it's adding all that black with manual VBR?

Thanks

TMPGEnc sometimes has trouble recognising the length of files. You could use the source range setting to set the real last frame instead of letting it autodetect it.
