Hopefully I won't get in trouble, but I posted the same question in dvd-r for newbies and I am not getting answers there.

My Drive is stuck in PIO mode and I have tried uninstalling it at least ten times and reinstalling it when the PC reboots but everytime it just goes to PIO. A week ago it worked fine now it reads and burns at around 1.8 x I think maybe because some of the newer encriptions on movies with the retry's and what not. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Thanks, ---zen-->.

What do you mean by uninstalling it? Are you talking about uninstalling in Device Manager?

Have you updated your firmware recently? You may have gotten a bad flash. Try flashing it again.

Another possibility is the the optical is going belly up.

Life is good!

That's one thing I have never done before is done a "flash" or anything on my drive I am not confident enough with my skills and the side effects for me outway the benifits or possible side efects if done wrong.
What I meant was yes I did go into the device manager and select the secondary ide channel which was stuck in PIO and uninstall it then when I rebbot it it should have come back in DMA but it just returns in PIO Only. Now when I do this in instructions it says that their should be a ballon which states that new hardware has been detected but it never does that, nor does it say that I need to restart my pc to make desired changes take effect.

What is my "optical going belly up" mean?
