hi,
b4 i say anythign else i'd like to say i have googled this for over 30 minues, couldnt find he answer anywhere.

i wanna know if my regular altec lansing headphones plugged in my pc's coaxial spdif "came with motherboard" supposed to to work?
cuz they arent working for somereason. i only got a low buzziing sound.
but since its a coaxial spdif i had thought that my regular headphones should work.
the sound does come if headphones are plugged in line-out jack. butnot if i switch to coaxial s/pdif jack.
HELP?

your problem is quite simple, my friend. headphones, along with speakers, and analog devices. they require and analog signal in order to produce sound waves. s/pdif is a digital audio output signal. it is not analog. you must have your headphones plugged into the line out or headphone out jack. the s/pdif output is meant to be connected to a digital input of an amplifier, or computer speakers that have a digital input. simple as that, you can't plug an analog device into a digital output.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

you want to find a speaker system that has a digital input, but its strange that creative website doesn't specify the input source for the speakers...I would assume then that its only analog. for the surround sound speakers, they probably will have a digital input though.
